It'd be wierd if this guy were actually on this site and commented but i had a couple questions.  I've tried searching a bit and couldn't find anything but i bet one of you will manage to find a post dealing with my questions.

I'm totally new to bikes and i don't know how important services are.  I assume they are important since there is one at 600 miles compared to cars which first one is around 5k.  This bike hasn't had the service done, is 68 over 600 a big deal?

The exhaust is scratched, along with the fairing and chrome cover on what I think is the transmision.  I think the turn signal has been busted too.  Essentially, this is the bike i'm looking for because its already been dropped but is 4k steep for a cosmetically damaged bike?

obligatory smiley to liven up post

The break in service is important, you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost that a stealership charges.  Mainly it involves checking that everything is still tight, oil change and possibly checking the valve shims (not sure on that one).

It's just as important though, that the break-in period rules are followed, mainly that the RPM's were kept low.  Looking at that rear tire, and I may be wrong, it's a really small picture, but it looks like it may be pretty much bald.   :dunno_white:  If it is, then I doubt the RPM's were kept down...

Also, the cosmetic damage described would be really expensive to fix.  The fairings are busted up in a few spots, so 4K seems a little high...

I'd ask for some detailed pictures of the damage, tires and brake pads before getting too interested in this one...

Just my 2 cents....
GS500F in BLUE because that's the COOLEST color!

Would pay about 3K to 3500 for it.  There were some in here in the for sale section check those out.

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

not to thread jack or nothing .. yes you can go 3k on a new car but man ... its just like a bike .. about 600 its best to bring that bad boy in to have that oil changed !  then every 3k after that :)  ( i work at one of the ford dealers in texas)  this is mostly to any of you in the south that are in that hot hot weather. texas is looked at as a sevier duty state . so the mantince is needed !

I would offer him about $3500.00 because he dropped it (ouch), if he/she had not it would be worth $4000.00. Thats a fair price for a private sale on this bike, and he's got the title so there would be no screwing around about that.

68 miles over the first service is not terribly bad.

And most car manufactures won't tell you this but you should change the oil at the first 1000 miles and then again at 3000 miles, and also keeping your RPM's varying and always below half of the RPM range for the first 3000 miles.(which is hard for most people to do or remember while driving)
Manufactures won't recommend this because they don't want there products to get well over 200,000 miles( bad for new sales ).
This was some info past to me from a very close friend who's been a mechanic for the Honda Formula 1 team for about ten years now.
I'm trying this theory on an 04' Toyota Matrix, and I am hoping to not have the final results for another ten years.
( I'm already at 51'000 miles and not a single problem)
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

Appreciate the responses, he gave me some pictures of the exhaust, transmission cover, and some of the fairing.  They are all scratched and he hasn't responded to my original email where i wasn't paying 4k for the bike.

I added up some stuff saying i'd have to immediately do to get the bike pristine again.  3k was what i was going to offer if he emailed me back but no biggie.  I still have to take the MSF (stupid rain) so not terribly worried about a bike quite yet.

About break in on cars, and miles between services, i think there hasn't been a straight answer yet.  Some say drive it hard during break in rather than take it easy and keep rpms down.  Some say dino oil lasts 10k with synthetic being better.   :dunno_white:

MSF in the rain is fine.  I did the MSF in the rain.  You've gotta learn how to ride in the wet some time.  Lots of fun.  :)

find out what it would cost to fix  what is wrong with it . take off that amount from his asking price .. and see what it comes out to .. then let him know what your willing to pay . dont tell him your not going to pay his price . just tell him what your willing to offer
