Right now I don't have enough hosting space or bandwidth to put videos on the site.  We can either provide a link to it, or we could upload it to Google Video or YouTube if you think there's a chance the link will break.  It's up to you.

Sanjay, your site used to be the #1 result on google for "gs500 wiki" but now it's not even on the list.  Any idea what happened?

Unnamed

The 1 person who linked to it took down the link?

If you think you don't need a helmet, you probably don't

sanjay

What probably happened was that Google's indexing program was in the middle of updating itself, and you caught it before the wiki was added.  I just checked and it's on the list again.

Come on, folks, there are still lots of red links.  If you're asking questions on the forum that could be answered or discussed on the wiki, then add what you learn!

I suggest adding some explicit copyright info, for example the Creative Commons "share-alike/wiki" license template (*):

Also, since Sanjay will presumably leave Stanford at some point in the future, if the Wiki takes-off, there will come a time when there will be lots of dead links on the Internet and at Google.  Some remedies include:

  • help John host the Wiki on the existing GSTwins site
  • help John make a "http://gstwins.com/wiki" with "url forwarding" (http code 302) to forward requests to the Wiki location (Stanford today, somewhere else tomorrow?)
  • create a new domain and website and host the wiki there, away from Stanford
  • create a new domain name, e.g. "gs500wiki.com" with CNAME to stanford.edu (needs help from Stanford admin)
  • make a domain name now, using an empty website with URL forwarding to Stanford.edu, then later move the wiki from Stanford to its own dedicated website

Plan for success!

(*)Creative Commons is an effort to create copyright-like licenses for online content that are useful, reasonable and manageable.
You cannot escape our master plan!

There are two air filter pages:

http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Main/AirFilter
http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/AirFilter

They are mostly the same, but slightly different.  These should probably be merged into one.

sanjay

Rema, thanks for bringing this up.  I added the CC license, though I used the non-commercial version.  I'm not sure about commercial vs. non... any opinions?

As far as hosting goes, I'll be here for quite some time (at least another 4 years), so there's no hurry to switch it.  However, planning ahead is a good idea.

I'm open to URL forwarding from GSTwins or from another host name, or migration to a new host.  Hosting on GSTwins completely would be ideal, but it'll take some setup work from John (though I'd be happy to help out).

Ok back up.  Looks like it was dearly missed.

Folks, please add to it.  There have been only a few people adding in the last few months.  If you spent a fraction of the time adding to the wiki that you do postwhoring...

I noticed a minor spelling mistake that might be easy to fix here:

http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Main/CarburatorPictures

Should be "carburetor" with an "e".  I've noticed it spelled correctly in other places though.  Keep up the good work refining the WIKI!  :thumb:

I think we need Sanjay for renaming a topic, because all the links to it need to be renamed too.  If I don't hear from him I'll give it a shot.

I'll be rejetting my '01, so I can put "real" pictures of my carb while I'm at it.

sanjay

There are two ways, both of which require the same amount of work.

One way is to change the filename on the server, which only I can do.  That will make all current links red and broken, and each will have to be fixed.

Alternatively, anyone can just create a new page with the corrected name and copy the text from the old "edit' page to the new one.  Same process with the links.  Then I'll have to go in and clean out the old page from the server, which I do periodically.

I'm really busy right now with school and finals, so if one of you guys wants to change it, go for it.  Otherwise I'll take care of it in a week or so.

Wiki is down again.  What's up with Stanford's IT?  Should we get professional hosting?  I'd put up a few bucks for that.

sanjay

I need to look into this.  Shouldn't be happening...

Anyone talked to John lately?  I've been trying to get in touch with him about hosting the wiki on gstwins (perhaps wiki.gstwins.com or similar).

Otherwise we'll put it up on a professional site.
