I'm so excited! I just learned I'll be riding with Lone Star Trackdays on August 28th at Texas World Speedway. The best part about this is that I get to do it for free. I cornerwork for half the day then ride for the second half, so it's not a full track day technically, but good enough for me.

Now I get to apply all the things I learned from the last time I was out there! Yay!

Sweet deal, those guys have a nice looking operation.  Is $150-$200 about typical for a track day / instruction?  That seems very reasonable.  I wish one of the tracks they use was closer than 200 mi. from me.

I think $150 to $200 is pretty standard.

If you want something in Houston, check out Ride Smart. If you want a free track day you can corner work for a day and then receive a credit for a free full track day. They have a Motorsport Ranch: Houston event about once a year it looks like.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

sweet! I try to get trackdays for under $130...anywhere from $75 (by invitation) to $125 are standard for the ones I do.

Have fun!

Haha, don't you remember Alpha's last track day? The one where he sneezed entering a corner, crossed up, and thus proceeded to n00b himself and his bike?

Alpha, best of luck, have a bunch of fun, and hopefully the bottom of your pegs will look like the bottom of mine after this  :icon_mrgreen:

I always wondered if you could sneeze on a racetrack. I thought about this at Willow Springs turn 8 at 140, cover a lot of tarmac at that speed.

I don't have feelers on my pegs because I switched them to CBR ones, so they are more of a slash cut... and mine won't be worn from crashing either.
I don't really like dragging pegs anyways. It just means I need to hang off more.

Sadly yes. What happened for me was that it was my first time on the track, and I apparently took a good liking to it and was draggin' knee (I am like a monkey on that bike) fairly early in the first session. No one told me otherwise, so I put pressure on my knee puck. Bad idea, I learned. As I entered the turn and sneezed I put too much pressure on the puck and levereged the bike off the ground enough to lose traction and lowside.

And the wheel finally goes on...

Katana rear rim installed last night with a 150/60-17 Pilot Power out back and a 110/70-17 Pilot Power up front.

Next on the list is to sort out the handling issues I'm having with the Katana shock. After that comes track prep, low speed fun, and then a day at the racetrack!

Pictures later.

Haaaaaaaaaa...

Pilot Powers = sheer awesomeness. These tires are amazing. I have never known the definition of traction until now. And I haven't even been to the track yet...

I'm really excited about Monday!!

I consider the pilot powers to be the top line street tire with plenty of track grip. they're still street tires and will slide a bunch in really hot weather (I mean africa hot). more than other tires will on the same day. when they do let loose they are predictable, at least they were for me...good smooth spin ups on the gas out of corners-but only a handful of times chasing an R1...

if you need any more grip you will need DOT race tires. they're the only brand I've gotten more than once-and I've gone through almost a dozen sets of tires in the 12,000 miles I've done on the cbr.

I highly doubt I'll need any more grip than these things offer. They are fantastic so far, although I think I feel them slipping a bit (as it has been over 100 every day here for the last month and a half at least) but I could be wrong. I have no doubt they will provide ample grip for the track, especially since I only have a piddly little 42HP to work into them.

Unfortunately I have only been commuting on them. No twisty riding, no canyon carving, no weekend blasts. But there a few spots on my commute I can lean it close to balls out tilt and I have had nothing but amazing response back from them.

I'll keep y'all posted on track status.
