Running rich, fouled plugs after rejet...HELP

The GS never ran great, so we pulled the carbs out, one of the pilots was stuck, so we easy outed it, replaced stock pilots with 40s, cleaned stock mains, adjusted floats (were WAY off), synced the carbs.  Took out CA emmissions BS, took out stock petcock, put in a high flow fuel filter, and a shutoff, capped vaccuum lines, rerouted hoses correctly.

It now runs, but is really rich on the bottom, takes a lot of throttle on the bottom.  Runs great once you get going.  Sitting in stop and go traffic, it will foul plugs.

No we were going to try hotter plugs, and 28 jets.  Any other thoughts?

You need 40 non-bleeder pilots. A user on here named scratch found that size 40 bleeder size pilots were too rich. Make sure you have the non-bleeder type.

40 bleeds are 1 size too big. 37.5 bleeds or 40 non bleeds. But Yea put in 40 non bleed - no holes on the sides.
Cool.

You're the only one who seems to think that.  From what I can tell, most people who tried running 37.5 bleeders thought they were crap.
Cool.

The 40s we put in there had holes in them - which I am taking to be "bleeders" the 37.5s we took out had no holes.  Would this make that big of a difference?  We didn't think it would...

So would the best be 40 non bleeds or 37.5 non bleeds?

Go with 40 non bleeds. They are tried and true among hundreds of members on the board. Like Aaron said, srinath is the only one who advocates 37.5 bleeders.

Yeah, the ones with hole in the sides are the bleeders.  It makes a big difference, bleeder vs. non-bleeder.  The best would be 40 non-bleeders, that's what almost everyone who has rejetted is running.

WTF - Look at this crap ...  :flipoff: I basically invent the 40 non bleed swap - OK OK I copied it from the freaking manual  :thumb: ... but for all you know I invent it  ... and here he is ... I advocate for 37.5 bleeds ... WTF ...
OK push comes to shove, if you were stuck on a deserted Island  :o with nohting but your damn 37.5 bleeders, I could build the GS into a damn boat and motor out of there ... else - use 40 non bleeds ...
Cool.

Funny stuff Srinath.

So, just to double check, I need 40 Mukini "large round" non-bleeder pilot jets?

Thanks

You want Mikuni N151.067-40 non-bleeding jets.  Any stealer with a catalog should be able to get them.
