Help with Engine smoke

Hello all,  I am pretty new to the boards and I have some questions.  I have purchased a 05 gs500f for virtually nothing, it needed new forks which are done and some other small things.  Here is my problem I got the bike started for the first time after a year of sitting the other day.  I have drained all the old gas and changed the oil.  Right when I started it white smoke started to come out right by the beginning of the exhaust and continued just to pour out.  The oil Cooler is pretty beat up from the wreck the previous owner had, so I am not sure if the motor is just quickly overheating or what because possibly the oil flow is blocked.  The oil pressure light does not come on when the bike is started so I am curious whats going on I am afraid to run the bike with fear of scorching the pistons and cylinders.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  By the way I did search with nothing really coming with the same circumstances.

pull the plugs
are they covered in oil?
if no leaks from the cooler and no oil on the exhaust pipe
probably some oil got past the rings while the bike was laying on the ground like a lifeless blob of afterbirth(i love to get that phrase in)


if oil in cyl....spin it over with plugs out and put a finger over the plug hole to help spray it out

There was oil on the exhaust pipe.  I have changed the plugs, the old plugs looked normal some oil but definitely not covered.  Any other suggestions or should it be best just to take it to a mechanic and have them diagnose it?

Was the white smoke being forced out?  As in: under pressure?
Puffs in rythm with the piston strokes?

If not, then it was just burning off; don't worry about it.

Otherwise, make sure the exhaust bolts are tight.

Yea white smoke not in rythm though, thank you for your replies I fired it up today and the smoke stopped after a little bit.  Thanks again look forward to being on the boards more.

White smoke is usually water vapour.

Black smoke is fuel (too rich)

and Blue smoke is oil
