Dies at idle.... pilots too small??? or worse???

Hey guys.... You can see from you signature that I have the following:

K&N Lunchbox
V&H Full System
15 tooth
127.5 mains
40 pilots

At idle now my bike dies.  As long as I'm driving its good... but if I stop at a light or a stopsign my rpms drop rapidly and the bike dies quickly.  If i put my choke on a bit more (some times put it on a bunch) it will idle well and not die but it is a fine line between death of the bike and rapidly elevating rpm's.

I'm thinking my jets might be too small for the set up I have... What do you guys think?

Have you adjusted the idle screw?

With your setup, I would probably run a 135-140 main.
Common sense in not very common.

Lunch box = 150 mains.
its lean ... but at higher rpm's it will run ... obviously it cant stall at 7K ... of course its runing hotter and making more power etc ... but it comes at the cost of the motor's life.
Cool.

Yeah, for lunch box and an exhaust, it will run with 127.5/40 with 1 washer, but it won't be pretty (ask me how I know).  For that set up, you definitely want to run 150 mains.  Your pilots are perfect.  Just sounds to me like you just need to adjust the idle screw.  I find mine needs constant tweaking to keep it idling at the right RPM.  With your set up as is, it should be able to maintain an idle at 1500, 1700 or so.

cool... I'll try the idle screw tonight... I already have a set of 150 from a previous bike... I'll give them a shot

150's were too big for me. They ran flat at full throttle. Then with cams, it was even worse. Ended up using 145.

On a stock bike - I would almost venture to guess that 150's will make the least power ... lean = better burn and hence more power, 150's are the largest size any one can run before it starts misbehaving from being too rich. 147.5 may actually be closer to ideal, and heck leaner than that will definetly make more power. 150 is the largest jets you can run before 90% of the bikes start misbehaving from being drowned out in gasoline ...  O0 ... start swapping cams, carbs, port and polish ... and no clue ... may need to go up, or down. I like those cos the richer the cooler it runs. yea you're personally putting 2-3 sheik's kids through Harvard business school ... but hey who cares, your bike runs colder ...  :thumb:
