Hey guys I've noticed a few people post about knocking noises. Just so we can have a post to hopefully cover some of them if this was happening to your bike what would you check going from easiest to hardest? For example valve clearances

Valves are the first thing I'd check. Followed by cam chain/tensioner.
Blue 2004F with some fun stuff
Lunchbox, 22.5/65/147.5, Jardine, 17/39, R6 throttle, R6 shock, .85 springs, GSXR1100 rearsets, Clubmans+Rox 2" risers, T-Rex sliders, flush mount fronts, integrated LED tail, integrated LED fronts, HID Projector, blue gauge LEDs, 12V outlet

And 96.5% more wub wub

if you hear clicking on the valve cover gasket at idle, you have a loose timing chain and probably a bad chain tensioner. If you hear something that sounds like that while you are slowing down or changing gears, then your drive chain needs replacing.
2006 GS500f w/K&N drop in air filter, Carb rejetted 20/62.5/137.5, Fairing removed, stock headlight on forks. Clubman Handlebars.
