Hello All,

I have a 94 GS, and a friend recently pointed out my tail/brake lights dont work. I checked both bulbs, one of them was blown, replaced it, but it is still not working.

When the ignition is on and the lights are on there is nothing.
When the lights are off there is a slight glow,
and when the ignition is in park the lights both shine as they normally should...

So what could it be?

There are 3 wires coming from each bulb, and i have now noticed a orange wire that is loose and looks like it runs to the taillights... but i have no idea if it is the brake light wire and where it goes/ how to put it back... any help appreciated.

Sounds like someone has messed with the wiring.

There are only three wires to the tail light/brake light.  Black/white, White/black and Brown.  No Orange.  Orange wires are ignition switched 12V and there should be none hanging loose anywhere.

Sorry, forgot to add, nothing happens when i press the brakes...

Also with my bike its a given someone has f%&ked up somewhere in the past, i just need to know what part has gone or what has gone wrong so i can stop being paranoid about police.

Simplified wiring diagram.

Hope it helps.

I am at a total loss, i have followed what i believe is all of those wires and checked the connections (took them apart, sprayed wd40). Everything looks ok. I cant afford to take it to a shop to get fixed, any ideas?

Do you have a multimeter?  They are indispensible when troubleshooting electrical problems, and you can pick up a basic one for pretty cheap at most any hardware store.  I think mine cost $10 or$20.
