update, friend with daytona 675

he is doing alright.  He has now droped it once while tieing it to a trailor to take to to the local big parking lot and one of his straps broke.  The bike fell over and fell off the trailor, 1 bike trailor, and did $2300 worth of damage.  He says that it broke everything on the left side except the front side fairing including denting the gas tank.  My question is does it seem a little far fetched to do this much damage with one drop?  Now he is having all the work done at the stealer but how the hell can one drop cause that much damage.  I think he might have slid and is afraid to tell me cause that would make me, and everyone else's whos advice i showed him from here, right.  So could one drop break that much stuff, i mean i have dropped the my GS a handfull of times and the only thing that i have had to do is replace the right fairing, that was the first time down with me on it, and i havn't had to fix anything except handlebars and the right fairing.  That being said if i took it to the stealer to get the parts it would have cost around $300 for my bike.  I don't know if i can swallow the story he gave me.  When i see him next i am going to look at the tank cause they can't get a replacement and look for the tale tell scratches a slide would have made.

My uncle (? still a new concept to me they just got married) dropped  his ducati monster 620, the wind blew it over, it cost him $2200 to get it repaired, bent the bars, broken mirror and lever, dented tank, scratched exhaust can..and those were ducati parts...he may have just dropped it..if it fell off the trailer it might have had enough to do that much damage but  it seems like alot to me too...

yeah he said that it didn't fall off the trailor, just fell over when the strap broke.

Thats $2300 for parts and labor?  That doesn't seem all that bad you gotta figure that the 675 has alot more stuff that can break on it that's under the plastic's.  Average hr rates down here are about $70, then the cost of parts and  unless parts come pre-painted there will be prep cost to add.  I'd say it's a possiblility.  When you see the bike check for scratches like you said.  Or better yet head to the dealer doing the work and ask to see the parts  they took off.


edit was typing while you posted.  In that case I don't think it could fall over that hard unless the wheels got damaged somehow.  And tell your friend to buy a wheel chock. (sp?)

Yeah he lives 250 miles away and the bike is now closer to 375 miles away.  I don't want to take the road trip just to piss him off that bad.  A drop couldn't have done much mechanical damage outside the clip-ons, lever and scuffs i would think.  and knowing him he would get the plastic replaced but i still think that is a little steep.  I told him if its rideable don't get it fixed cause it iwll happen again but he never listens to me

Yeah it is beautiful.  I got to look at it the entire way home from Iowa in the back of the pickup.  I just wanted to hop on go for a quick ride but by the time we got back to VA i just wanted to curl up in a warm comfy bed

its is tornado red but i don't think that he is going to sell it any time soon.  If he does i already have dibbs

Tell him you will swap bikes with him. You ride the daytona he can ride the 675. Then when he has experience you can switch back again. Make sure you pile a tonne of miles on it and just say your breaking the seat in lol.

a replacement set of plastics for the RR runs $2000 at the dealer-parts only. so $2300 for parts and labor at the dealership sounds about right. I bet they're replacingthe tail, tank, side, lower, upper, clip on, lever, windscreen, etc...so its easily that much...would have been cheaper to get frame sliders.

Thats the thing about the new triumphs-not enough stolen bikes on ebay to get the parts cheaply, like you would a gixxer....8^)


btw-the red is the best color for that bike...
