i bet you thought this was another crash thread...

last night i took my gs out for her trial run after a two month battle with the carb/tank rust issue...
i had to make a run thru central WI with a spare seat (b/f on his way to his sisters to fix a puter) so i can have a ride home to get the truck if she decided to break down,
with in the first 25 miles we had to jump onto a small streach of "slab".
the on-ramp is a hard right followed by a straight streach onto the hwy, so after having put about 15 miles on her i was starting to gain my confidence in the tires (new ones that still havnt been shagged in, after having ridden on squared off ones.. needless to say im lovin the cornering ability i gained)
i lean her right in, to have the whole bike slide on my, i managed to get my foot cought on the pavement as i was going down and by sheer luck i managed to shove down with my foot at the persise moment i felt the bike going too far, i never let off on the throttle and miraculously gained my traction back.

until we stopped and i looked, i thought i leaned over to far and went off the edge of the tire.
im thinking i was seriously lucky that the front never broke loose, and that i must have just hit some oil or somthing in the road to cause the rear to slide.
i somtime hang my foot off the peg to allieviate soreness and that is why my toe cought.
ive been in a rear tire slide before and this one i knew i was going down.
it was sheer luck my foot cought and i shoved .

i scared the living piss out of myself and im greatful for not panicing and just following thru with everything i was doing, being consistant, riding it out...

after all of the "crash" threads i thought id post up a close call about not crashing..
althought now ive jinxed myself and the next crash  i post will be about me crashing :P

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

I'm still going to have to advise not to put your foot down/out.  Loosing a leg is not a great experience from what I heard.

After a few more of these, sliding will be enjoyable.
Common sense in not very common.

see when i ride i dont generally ride with my foot out like that, i was just doing it becasue i havnt ridden in a month and was stiff, its a good thing i did too, it was what saved me from going down.  lightly scuffed the toe of my riding boots (btw my feet are roughly a kids size 4.5, i have the smallest womens street boots i could find at the time)
i normally ride on the balls of my feet, especially into corners, you can position your body better :thumb:.

this was more than a "slide" ... sliding IS fun when you know you are not going down ;). ive slid thru a coner before :cookoo:, this was a lowside prevented and i am amazed that i didnt go down.

fyi, i ride with my helmit, leather jacket, gauntlett hard knucle gloves and my boots. if my leather pants were more comphy ida prolly had those on too :o.
