So I ride to the local cg and saw that they sell the mikuni jets, which I will use to compensate for the stock leanness of the U.S. GS500   Is there a specific main and pilot for a specific bike, or are they pretty much generic?  I mean, do I need to specify it's for an 06 GS500 or do I just say i need a 40 pilots and a 127.5 mains?   Thanks, you saved me from looking like a total dumas :dunno_white:

I guess it'd be a 20 pilot and leave the mains alone, according to the matrix.  anyway, the above was just an example.

Try 20 pilots and 130 mains. 1 up on the stock sizes. Also 1 washer under each needle. 3 turns on mix screw.
Cool.

Some people recommend bumping the mid jets higher as a more effective way of enriching the midrange.  I don't know either way, but something to consider.  But really, the wathers are the easiest part to do,  You can pick up the washers at pretty much any hardware store, and they're redonkulously simple to install.  You don't even have to pull the carbs.  Just take off the diaphram covers, pull out the slides, pull out the needle, drop the washers on, reinstall.  With the tank off or the carbs out, you need one screwdriver (as opossed to as many as three for the rejet.  :))

Wait, the shop's asking me if I need mikunis or kheins.  My bike is an 06.  I know the 06 has a different carb than the earlier years. BTW, does the 06 also run lean from stock?

Dude - you prolly shouldn't be rejetting it all by yourself, if you're going to ask us that ... anyway its got small round mikuni slotted jets. Ask away, only 50% of us will laugh at your stupidity, and they are the ones stupider than you ...
Cool.

lol, thanks for the "encouragement" srinath.  I don't claim to be an expert on carbs, as a matter of fact I've never seen my bike's, but we all learn sometime, right?  anyway, my friend knows some stuff about carbs and he's gonna help.  I felt the symptoms of the bike running lean, and I read about as much as I could find on the forum on it, but on the thread that explains why one should rejet a gs500 it says they come lean from the factory, but since I also read that they changed the carbs around 00-01 I didn't know if the problem persisted.  Im not worried about ppl laughing man, I'm glad ya'll are here sharing all the knowledge.  Cheers

you want the "bleeding" pilot jets.
Really?  They switch from non-bleeders to bleeders?

Im lost WW i thought bleeders were bad. Everyone tells me to get the non bleeders pilots. :thumb:

The old carbs, you definitely want non-bleeders.  Maybe they changed them for the new carbs?  :dunno_white:

Stock jet sizes for '04+ are 17.5 pilot, 60 mid main, and 130 main.

For a stock bike, go with 20 pilot, 60 mid main, and 130 or 132.5 main. I found the 62.5 to be too rich.
