I know what that is like. My brother did that with his first bike. You let out the clutch and your mind freezes up. It's more the other more experienced riders fault really. They should have taught him better. or started him in a straight line, not facing parked cars. duh.

My bros. bike hit my car and the front wheel bold tore into my car like a can opener. He felt sooooo freaking bad.

I know it would have been beneficial to me to have it firmly planted in my mind that the best way to cut the power that's getting you into trouble (when starting) is to grab the clutch and brakes.  Backing off the throttle when you screw up just throws you off balance when engine breaking occurs.  Starting in a straight line far away from traffic and parked cars would have helped a bunch too!  I know many people (myself included) whose first experience trying to turn the bike meant not turning at all.  My buddy and I got our first motorcycles the same day and took our first rides a day apart.  Despite the fact that he TOLD me he shot straight across the road into the grass on his first ride, I managed to make the same mistake when I took mine.  Thankfully it wasn't into anybody's front yard!

I still find his Flintstone-esque breaking efforts while holding the throttle open to be humorous though.
Granted, I'm still learning myself, and can't really afford to make fun of ANYBODY.
