I got a "free" 92 gs500. but it was mechanically trashed.cams were positioned wrong and may have potential valve probs. My question is this. can I use a californa carb without the canister? if so what are the hose routings? there is an extra"T" on the front of the carb where hoses go to the canister. any ideas?

IIRC the canister T can be capped, it is just a vent. Someone else will need to post the hose routings since I do not deal with street setups.
Common sense in not very common.

there is a hose that goes from the gas tank to the canister, just leave that unhooked.  don't plug it

the lower T on the carb needs to be plugged.

The CA carbs should look like this:

Items 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 do not exist on non-CA carbs.

Like dgyver said, you should be able to disconnect the canister hose from the T-connector between the carbs (item 6) and then just cap off the T.

I bought a used gas tank for my '94 gs 500(apparently the bike came from CA to PA) and when I istalled it I noticed there is no place to connect the hose that goes from the canister to the tank.  I intalled it today and when I tesrode the bike it stalled.

QUESTION: If I perform the prosedure descrived (to cap the T valve), will the problem stop?
