So I'll be hitting the track in late September and have been working for the past couple weeks to get ready for it.  The biggest problem I'm having is trying to figure out what I'm going to do for leathers as I want to try to avoid renting them.  See, I'm 6'5" and 220 lbs, so I'm pretty tall and kinda skinny, and clothing that is long enough is often for someone twice my width.   Finding clothes has always been a Buddha Loves You but this whole leather thing is 10x worse.

I started by looking at suits online, but it makes me kind of uncomfortable to go only by these sizing charts and not trying them on.  I could buy a suit, try it,  then probably have to return it when it doesn't fit, costing me $30+ for shipping just to try the damn thing on.

Then I checked out my favorite dealer.  They didn't have any race suits in stock (I really can't blame them) but they did have jackets and pants in the same brands that they could order me so I could get a sizing idea.  I tried on the largest sizes they had and they were either way too short or way too baggy.

It looks like the only other option is a custom suit from a company like Vanson Leathers.  But those start over $1k before I start adding things like armor, venting, and knee pucks.

So my question is, are there any fellow members who have the same pain in the ass gift and know of a place to get entry-level off-the-shelf leathers that fit?

Thanks for the help guys (and gals)

Go custom. I have similar problem, 5ft6, 120lbs (soaking wet) skinny ass.
I went custom and the fit is worth the money. I got lucky and won this custom fitted Kushitani suit!

but before I did, I had done the research and gotten lots of recommendations. I found syedleathers.com in NC to be very highly recommended. Their suits can be had for as little as $700 in simple colors (of your choosing) from their patterns, which range from very simple to complex patterns. made to measure for $700 is a bargain. I saw a couple locally at a trackday and the guys wearing them swore by them. I was going to buy these when I won the kushitani.

go to their website, download their brochure (only way to get their info), and check out their custom suits. It really is the way to go and you wont find a good quality custom suit for less.

And he hasn't taken them off sense  :icon_mrgreen:

I have the exact opposite problem with my legs and waist.  If the waist fits then the knee pucks are on my shin's  If the legs fit then I can't zip up the waist
