Man, Yesterday i dropped my bike while i was taking it out of the house to go to the bike shop to get my license plates.  So i picked it up got a scratch on the side of the motor, broke the tip of the brake lever, and scratched the end of my handle bar, but no frame damage so i was mainly just mad at myself for being so stupid, at least i can't blame no one but my self. Well i get up and start going along and get on the highway and run out of gas!!! So i sat on the highway with my bike waiting for my friend to give me gas. since i had to go to work by this time i just ran out there and mad it a half hour late.

My question is can  i get the little cap on the side of the engine replaced that i damaged? how much would it cost? how hard would it be? Here's a picture of my poor suzuki

Don't feel bad, I bet half of the bikes on this board have rotor covers that look like that.  Moving it around at low speed is the hardest part of riding.  It's a common noob mistake, I've done it myself a couple times, so don't beat up on yourself over it.

To answer your question, yes, you can get a new cover.  I'm not sure how much they cost, but I don't think they are too expensive.  If you keep your eye on eBay and the For Sale section you can probably find one for pretty cheap.  Personally, I would wait until you get more comfortable with the bike before replacing it.

I replaced all the lights in my dash (gauges and idiot lights) with LED lights.  It's a great little mod; the gauges look a lot nicer and the idiot lights are MUCH brighter and can now be easily seen in day light.

I got all of mine off of eBay.  For both the idiot lights and the gauges you need type 168/194 LED replacement bulbs.

For the idiot lights, you need 1x Red, 2x Greens, and 1x Blue.  I suggest using the 4-LED bulbs for the idiot lights as anything bigger may be overkill.  For the '04+ models, you'll have to trim some plastic off of the tab on the bulb that plugs into the socket and install the bulb from the top of the instrument cluster.  I know that sounds confusing, but if you get the bulbs and take off the gauges you'll see what I mean.

For the gauges, you'll need to get some 'wide-angle' LED bulbs.  I used a 5-LED model that has 1 LED facing forward and 4 LEDs facing in different directions outward.  You can use any color you like for this.

If you spend some time searching around eBay, you might be able to find a seller that has all the bulbs you need and will combine shipping for them.  Also, the bulbs are usually sold in pairs so I suggest contacting the seller and requesting that the single Red and Blue bulbs you need be a 'pair.'  Anyway, you should be able to do this mod for close to $20.

Egaeus

Get a single LED bulb for the blue.  The multiple-LED bulbs look like a blue sun blinding you at night since it stays on constantly.

Note that the wide-angle LEDs don't like to go into the housing, and like coming out even less.

yeah i bought my bike from a salvage place that was parting out the bike until i bought it whole. Not much wrong with it or anything but they sold the damn right crankcase cover  of the bike, same piece your looking to replace. So i just ordered it from bike bandit, the total was like 38 bucks and $6 shipping. Ordered the parts on a wed and got them via USPS sat, ground shipping  :icon_mrgreen:. If you goto the parts fiche under one of the links they have a bunch of online stores for OEM parts. I choose bike bandit b/c it had cheap shipping and the price was maybe 3 bucks more than the other online stores, i saved on shipping though and it was super quick. checkout bikebandit.com and input the year of your GS500, you'll be able to look up any part you need and the prices.

Did you break the tip off completely? Does not look like much damage to the cover for that to happen. If you want another brake pedal I have several.
Common sense in not very common.
