06' GS/F Rejetting Formula

I am going to be rejetting an 06' GS/F to compensate for leanness, and in preparation for a high flow can/lunchbox.

Following Wiki's chart (and Blue05Twin's formula) I will be going for Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 and Mains 147.5. I got the mains already.

I need to know if I need pilots that are bleeders or non-bleeders and how many #4 washers if any would I need to shim the needles (clip position)?

Thanks!

As for the pilots, I'm not sure, I know on the older carbs it was non-bleeders, but for newer carbs I just go by the section in the Sudco catalog.  If you do a search you can find the exact part numbers.

IDK, I think 147.5 might be a little rich for a can and a lunchbox on a '04+.  I could be wrong, I've never tried it.  I wouldn't think you'd need to go 4 sizes up on the mains over just a lunchbox (137.5 is perfect for just the lunchbox) to add a can that does almost nothing for performance.  It may be just fine, but keep an eye on your plugs and make sure the aren't showing up rich.  Remember, the 01-02 carbs are different than the '04+ carbs.

As for the washers, you don't need any on the newer carbs.  The mid-mains are now used to tune the mid range instead of shimming the needles.

Make sure you have:

M4-0.7 12mm screws
EZout
2mm drill bit

otherwise ur gonna have a hell of a time putting the carbs back together since the brass screws suck ass to get out.  They WILL strip if yu don't have the right hardware, i forgot how it's called but it's like a screwdriver mixed with a hammer.

Got the screws,

...and judging by the previous posts I will take an 800 mg Motrin as a profilactic; prior to messing with the bowl screws  :thumb:

here's the correct part number and an image of the correct Pilots. the 20 at the end of the number is the size.
i went to the stealership and asked for N224.103 out of the SUDCO website. the loser behind the counter said that number was old and gave me the new number "VM28486".  please keep in mind that new number came out of a parts unlimited catalog.  this is also the same guy that said i didn't have to rejet my bike after installing a lunchbox and a can, and that i was better off getting the jet kit  :flipoff:

Impact driver -  ... its a screw driver that will turn like `1/32 of a turn if you clock it with a hammer ...
Anyway - 137.5 may be lean ... very very very lean ... the carb mouths are the same from old to new, and WFO - 147.5 to 150's and the mids have a effect on it as do needles, and since youre stepping up both 147.5 will be OK. You dont want to jet it for maximum power, you want to jet it to be as rich as can be, to the point where performance fall off noticeably, and then lean 1 step on the mains. Rich but not stinking filthy rich.
Cool.

can you not chim the needles on a 04+ to make up for some of the stock lean till jets come in?

i am riding to the mountain on friday, and i cant get any jets in on time. can i shim the needles (what 2 of them right?) with 3MM washers and get it richer (i dont care if it makes it stinken rich or not) just enough to keep the vlaves form buring up 6k up

Just incase anyone wanted to know these are Sudco part numbers

Part number                                       Description
004.565                                           N244.103-22.5
004.271                                           N102.221 #65 MJ
004.304                                           N102.221 #147.5

Those jets are for the 04+ carbs.

Thanks!

I am usually a meticulous person...   :thumb:  for this task even more so! However I'll wait til Srinath's flange arrive and there is also the possibility that It may have to wait a year for the upgrade... :icon_rolleyes:

Hoping for the best!!!
