I think I’m getting a new helmet…

Yesterday I went to eat lunch with my gf at her office.  I parked in the garage, but then we decided we were going to eat outside in the front.  I decided to go park in front of the building since it was closer.  I almost didn't put my helmet back on for the short ride out of the parking ramp, but I'm glad I did.

I came to the gate at the ramp exit... stopped... the gate rose... I started riding forward.  Then the freaking gate dropped on my head, catching the top of the face shield.  I was still moving and the gate went back up.  I stopped after clearing the gate, muttering obscenities.  Well maybe I was shouting them.  I hoped that I had broken the F#$%*g gate off, but no such luck.

I could tell my shield was not sitting right, so I went and parked, then inspected the helmet.  Looks like both hinge/mounts for the visor are broken.  After lunch, I rode back to work and later home without my shield, but fortunately I wear sunglasses with a clear shield so I had some eye protection.  My face just got a little sandblasting from all the crap on I-35W

I've since been in contact with the building manager and I'm waiting an accident form to fill out.  I expect them to fully repair or replace my helmet (HJC CL-14).

I'm glad I decided to put my lid on for that short ride, otherwise I probably would have a pretty bad headache

Damn. I'd have snapped that f%$king gate off anyway, and then claimed it broke when it hit me. Hell yes they better be paying for your new helmet. Word of advice though.. don't drive like such a granny, get through the gate quicker!  Just a joke. Glad you had your helmet, cuz that would have hurt like hell!

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I thought about going back and busting it, but I think I saw witnesses walking though the garage when I turned around to see if it was still there

I have an extra Arai sticker that came with my helmet.  Let me know if you want to slap that bad boy over the HJC logo when you ask to be reimbursed for the damages. :thumb:

Oooooooooo thats a good idea... but I already told them what the replacement cost would be.  And as much as I like to joke about things like that, I'm too honest to do that.  I almost feel bad asking for a new helmet when I might be able to fix it myself.... but they are definately responsible for this and a helmet is a drop in the bucket for a property management company

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
