Replacing the throttle tube

Hi all,

I decided to replace the grips on my 93 GS500.  So, after following the parts director's suggestion at the local shop (razor blade them off), I discovered that the throttle tube is pretty cracked up.  I went ahead and ordered a new tube, but I have no idea how to take the old one off or put the new one on.

Any suggestions / advice?

remove the bar end, seperate the two halves of the switch box, remove the throttle cable from the tube, and then just slide it off.

Excellent!  Thank you!  My bike didn't come with bar-ends (I bought some though).  The throttle side has quite a bit of rust inside.  Should I try to file / sand that out before putting on the new bar-ends?

Yes, you should clean that up, otherwise your throttle might grab and not snap back the way it's supposed to.  It happened to me, the effect is the same as having worn/rusty throttle cables (but much cheaper to fix).  It couldn't hurt to put some lubricant in there, too.  Not too much.  Just to make sure things stay smooth.

Thanks!  One more question:

Should I stick with an OEM throttle cover or are there others / better ones out there?  I've ordered an OEM, but it's got that grooved flange that would be an issue for most of the aftermarket grips I've seen.
