oil type

so i went looking for oil today but when i got to walmart i couldnt decide if i wanted to get the auto oil or the 4 stroke motorcycle oil. The motorcycle specific oil is like $3 more a qt. and i didn't wanna spend $15+ buck on just oil. I searched on here and some people use auto oil and it seems fine, some dont. I know since bikes have wet clutches and all that may affect which oil to use, what should i do?

Uhh.. if you searched, then you should know already. You will never, NEVER, NEVER EVER get a definitive answer. There will always be dissenting opinions. In the end, do what you feel is right. I personally use regular old motor oil. Just my $.02

People like to argue about nothing.  For a motor the vintage of the GS just go to Costco and buy a case of the cheapest 10-40W.

loaded question.....50% MC  / 50% AUTO
10-40 or 20-50 is fine
if you want to spend more $...spend more $

some have advanced friction modifiers.....blah blah blah
don't use the 5-30 or 10-30...designed for todays smaller hard working engine.....
the modifiers in that WILL make your clutch slip
been there, done that, didn't like it
