Lost: Rear Fender

Finally gave into peer pressure and did the big chop. Glare and shadows are kind of tough on the detail, but you get the idea.

And looks like you have bent the licence plate bracket to look fast standing still...Nice...I never leave home without it...

John: The signals aren't shortened, but where I mounted them (small flat side of the tool well) is about 1/2 of an inch narrower that the sides of the old fender. The wires run nicely through the well and follow the frame the same way as they did before.

Srinath: I cut a section of aluminum from the side of an old 166mhz P1 MMX box (recycle, reuse) and put about a 135 degree bend on it for the bracket. I was shooting for the opposite angle of the bodywork that the tail light pokes through. Paid for nothing on this one. Best kind of mod.

Went to NAPA to pick up an oil filter and had someone pull up next to me in a sweet old C-20 Chevy. He says, "Your bike looks like a bull, dude! Looks great!"

I guess the sparse tail with the Nap bar-end mirrors does give that impression.

Im actually surprised by how many comments i get on the looks of my bike, it being still a bare-bones stock 2002 and all. Can't wait till i pretty it up a bit by chopping the fender, shortening the stalks, bending the plate, cafe'ing the bars, sticking on new mirrors.

Yep I get  comments on mine too even if it is a purple pimpmobile. Only thing that sucks about a bike over a cage is there is only one place for a passenger....

I agree. The new body work, tank and seat look great stock. So few years imported domestically is going to make it tougher to get good (cheap) replacement parts for the changed pieces.

She's nice, but contrary to popular opinion, I personally like to leave a little in order for it to keep it's function. Good job.

Can some one please advise a dummy (me!   ) on the best way to do a fender conversion if I do not have a dremel?

They are over $150 here in Aus, and at present wont get much use out of it!  

Any other ways?  I was thinking a butter knife!  :lol:

P.S - I pick the bike up at 4.00pm today!

An exacto knife or a tough razor blade will work fine. I used a razor blade. quick, easy, and clean. required no sanding.

Xacto saw or other fine woodworking saw does a good job too and can be had cheap at any hardware store or home center.

I used the serrated saw blade on my Leatherman, and then sanded it smooth.

I will have to have a look at the situation when I get the bike this afternoon! My CBR F4i had it located near the chain..... no room on that fender for anything but the plate!

I went with the black one! only another hour till I can pick her up!!

Finally got the bike! (BLACK - after waiting for the blue!)

There is a spot on the chain guard - its a bolt that holds the guard to the frame... if you unscrew that and turn the rego tag upside down it works fine!

Now wheres that knife - "here fender fender fender"
