So mine was all torn up so I bought a new one.  How do I put it on?  :dunno_white:

My assumption is you have to remove one end of the cable and take apart all the nuts and everything else.

Remove the cable at the lever. You may need to loosen the cable at the engine as well.
Slide the boot on to the cable.
Reattached the cable to the lever.
Readjust the cable play.
Slide the boot over the lever.
Common sense in not very common.

MrDan

that's what I was afraid of.  the metal "screw" that holds the cable there is all bent and I cannot get it out.  guess I need to replace that screw as well.  damn

You should be able to disconnect the cable at the engine and slide it on from that direction.

Good time to lube the cable too, while you have it apart.

Since my shop manuals are all in storage at the moment, where would I find this?

dgyver

Right above the front sprocket.

cool ... I'll check it out at lunch :)

Although: If you bent the adjuster screw at the lever end, I'd replace the whole lever assy. I rode with a damaged adjuster for a few months and went through two clutch cables beause I chafed them up there.

Dunno about the used spares situation in the US, but in Europe you can get them regularly off eBay fairly cheap.

MrDan

It was actually crimped when I bought the bike.  I'll check bikebandit and see what that will run me.

Thanks everyone

Dan - remember I told you - I forgot to bring you the katana assy I have - Its now lying around somewhere - it replaces the whole assy ... on that bike its easy to swap - take the clip on out and remove it from the inside.
But OK you have gone too far on this route ... maybe best to take it to the finish.
Cool.

The Buddha

Oh no .... the warranty is void ...  ...
OK I'll find it and send it to you. Hey - wait a sec - I may have given it to someone else ...
Cool.

haha let me know .... i havent put in my weekly bikebandit order yet :)

I dunno man, It may be in my truck - which is back in AC shop. I think AC gonna get fixed in time for winter.
Anyway - the threaded part is sorta generic. I will see if I can liberate that from some thing else. Then you just buy the lever and swap it. Careful of the clutch switch, that needs to be removed, and the spring and slider etc need to come out and re fitted in the same order, mess up and it will get sheared off the first time you hit that clutch. Might be an idea to not connect the cable and make sure the clutch switch slides etc.
Cool.

oh yeah - that reminds me.  i actually broke the clutch switch (allows the bike to start right?).  right now it's taped so the clutch isn't required.  and i already got a new lever ..

been sick for a few days - not sure how i forgot i already had all that .. woops

guess i just need to replace the one screw and reassemble (have the new switch ready to go on as well).

good luck with that AC - still not fixed yet?  that blows
