The GS has been a good teaching tool for me. I've put almost 20,000km on it this season... I'm going to part with my GS in the spring in favour of a honda cbr 600cc supersport or a honda VFR sport-touring bike.

damn you gs twin, you've gotten me hooked on motorcycling and now my bank account is empty

for the record: the GS500 is just as fast as most supersports in the corners.. they'll waste you in the straights, but the GS is right on their tail in the twisties.. i've gotten a lot of compliments and suprised comments about the cornering ability of the GS  :) I'm upgrading because thinking about doing the track thing or doing the touring thing, and the GS does those good, but not great.

Have you ever done a track day on the GS? If you get a chance, I'd suggest you try a track day with your GS before upgrading. You would be surprised how much it will teach you. You think riding the GS through twisties forces you to hold your speed in turns? Even moreso on the track. It's awesome.

Good luck. Ride safe. :)

No, I haven't done a track day. I'm going to enroll in a racing school to get my first few tastes of the track using their sv650s/gsxr600/r6 track bikes ($500 deductable if you drop it) and then decide what I want route I want to go... track bike route or touring bike route

the vfr is not a bad track bike. not the best but you'll have just as good a time out there. people ride all sorts of things on the track, my friends included. the cbr is a great track and twisties bike but terrible for long distances.
