Dont Think This Is Good

Ok so last nite i decided to take the airbox off my 05 gs500f---all went well so i got it off and stuck 2 8 inch K&N filters on it(kart racing filters). It seems to hesitate and now it won't run without the petcock being in the prime position---so wats your opinion(oh yea i have a dynojet stage 1 jet kit installed) 1st-is it safe to run the bike with the petcock on prime 2nd-should i rejet with sudco jets 3rd-should i just put the stock airbox back on. What should i do? :dunno_white:Thanks for all your help!

If you removed your airbox and replaced it with pod filters and didn't rejet accordingly... it's going to run like crap. Rejet it properly.

I put a lunchbox on and yeah rejet is a must.  i did 40 pilots 140 mains.  Check out the poor man's rejtting pictorial on here it'll help.

He has a different year model than you do, therefore the carbs don't use those type of jets.

The fact that your bike doesn't run unless you have it on prime sounds like a jetting problem. The airfilter shouldn't cause this. The airfilter that I think you say you have are pod filters. With a stage 1 jet kit, a direct replacement K&N (lunchbox) works. The pods are designed for a stage 2 to 3. You may be lean, but shouldn't have problems running. Did you do the re-jet yourself?

My first thought was LEAN! But, couldn't mis-routing the fuel lines cause this too?

i have an 05, i pu a K&N lunchbox only, no other mods and i did the DynoJET kit stage 1, the guy used 122 mains, he says the dynojet needles have so much better flow that the 122 dynojet mains will put more gas in then the 130 stocks.  My bike runs GREAT...  and i didnt put on a pipe ot anything else, just the filter..

Thanx for all your help guys/ i moved the fuel lines a tad bit and now it runs on "on" and reserve now but it still has a boggin problem throughout the entire power band.

I could be wrong here, but that might be a float problem. Check your float height using a the clear tube Kerry method.

It's probally lean and needs to be jetted, but I've had a problem with engines running rough after recharging K&Ns and putting too much oil on them, which could restrict the flow and make it run rich. So make sure the things aren't totally soaked in oil before you tear your carbs apart.

Will, I guess by now you may have realized that the vacuum line was probably pinched.  Easy to do and hard to spot.

think logically. the bike was running fine before you worked on it, but now doesnt and the only thing you did was the filter. I'd look to see what, if anything, you twisted or knocked or pinched...

When i was trying to get my bike running good again after my lunchbox and rejet, i seemed to be at an end, so i just made sure i ahd floats adjusted right, and i replaced the small o rings on the top of the carbs.(the small o-rings are where you can access the needle, under the little breather type valve on the cover...Theyre shown in the poor mans jetting pictorial it says dont lose these small o-rings.) I'm not sure if thats what did it or if it was something else, but after i put the bike back together, it ran gravy thru all RPM's.
