ok so i lost my key, well my dad lost my key, so we went up to the suzuki dealer and they made a new key, it didnt work,  and they closed at 5 and it was 5 15 when i got home saturday, so my dad looked on this website and found out how to hotwire it and put a switch on it, now the tail light doesnt work but the brake lights do, what seems to be the problem? anyone know? thanks!

Probably just a blown filament in the bulbs.
Common sense in not very common.

Does the small bulb in the headlight housing light up?  If so, then replace the rear bulb.

If it doesn't light up, then you've got to get a key made.

+1 to dgyver's suggestion.

After those are checked, I'd need to know exactly how he hotwired the bike.
There are multiple circuits passing through that switch.

Hopefully it can be undone easily so that after you get the correct key, it can be put back proper.

What year GS is this?

2005  he just peeled back some rubber on the wires, didnt cut them and put a switch on, but my dad said its not the lights themselves, he tried new ones but they didnt work either, so i think i just need a new key. which will be done tomorrow

Once I left my keys and wallet in my friends car when he dropped me off to get my bike (a kawasaki kx400 at the time) and I was stranded. I didn't have any tools or money and thought I was screwed and stranded about 20 miles from home   but they i got to thinking about hotwiring the thing, so I looked arround the parking lot and found a bottle cap, a paper clip, and a plastic bag. I was able to unscrew my headlight bucket with the bottlecap, unplugged the ignition switch, stuck the paperclip into the plug recepticle, which turned the ignition on. I then wrapped the thing up with the bag to geep it from shorting out. The thing fired up and ran like a champ, and got me home without a problem.  :thumb: I was pretty proud of myself, and it only took 20 minutes.

I'm not sure if my tailights worked though  :dunno_white: I was just happy to have it get me home!

I had no idea about the ignition wiring, but you can learn real fast when you need to. I was pissed that I barely missed the ferry boat, but not too pissed.
