Help me find gauntlet gloves

I'm in the market for a new set of gauntlet gloves. These will be for both winter and track riding. If you can think of some stuff or have experience with some stuff, especially crash experience, let me
know. They must be all leather, and no Joe Rocket or Icon products. I don't trust the quality.

As for fit, I have fairly long and skinny fingers, but I wear a size L. My Alpinestars Octane S-Moto short cuff gloves fit me very well after a bit of break in. I also have fairly skinny wrists, 6.5" around at the widest point.

List of requirements:

  • ALL LEATHER
  • Rigid knuckle protection
  • Dual wrist closure straps
  • High quality (preferably dual/reinforced) stitching
  • Little to no venting
  • All black
Those are the must haves in a glove.

Nice features:

  • Straight cut 1st and 2nd fingers, pre-curved palm and 3rd and 4th fingers
  • 3rd and 4th finger bridge
  • External seams
  • Internal liner (warmth)
  • Wrist padding/sliders
  • Plenty of reinforcement
  • Kangaroo leather
  • Affordable!

I was reading a few reviews on MotorcycleGearReview.com about Alpinestars GP Plus gloves and there were more than a few people who said that the fingers burst apart in crashes. This is something I wouldn't expect from A*. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Has anyone heard of AXO gloves? What are they like? Control feel? Warmth? Fit?

IIRC, you are one of the long lean dudes.  They should fit you really well.  The fingers tend to run a little long.

Check with Pablo, I think he's wrecked on the track in them.  I remember him telling me they hold up well but the color starts to fade quickly.  I've had mine about 5 months and I haven't noticed an issue with the fading.  I'm sure Pantablo rides a lot more though.

Psh, that's just one type. I have a nice big list and was hoping to get some multiple brand info.

The SP-1s look pretty nice, I gotta admit.

yep, I crashed tested mine and they're fine. although it didnt look like my hands hit the ground much, just light scuffing. I fully trust them regardless. My SP-1's are 3-4 yrs old now and are great. Although as mentioned, they did fade quickly. I rode 9k miles in just over the first year and that was more than enough time, they faded well before that-maybe not 5 months old but not that much later.

I mean, look at them!

they're barely older than the jacket!

I prefer TourMaster/Cortech, but that's just me.

Wow, those look interesting.  Kangaroo palms / top, kevlar padding, fully perfed, etc. for less than $60.  Are the fingers made of leather or kevlar though?  I'm fairly certain Alpha isn't interested in gloves with textile pieces on the fingers  :nono:

I love the Tourmaster Coldfront Carbons. I mean, our climates are very different in the winter, but I'm poor so I can't afford different summer gloves and these don't bother me even in the heat. I think they were like 70 bucks if I remember right.

The ones you linked were the Teknic Speedstar, which are fully perforated gloves. I'm looking for ones with little to no perforation. They seem great for summer gauntlets though.

How about the Cortech Scarab R.R.?

I bought these AGVSport gloves on ebay, all leather, I have used them in track days but have not crash tested.

though I'm sure you're not interested...I found a joint a while back that sells fingerless gloves with 12" guantlets.  They were made for falconers and have pretty heavy leather over them.  I had them stained black and wear them over my standard gloves.

...I like really long gauntlets...

That usually means I have to velcro the glove down enough so that I can't get it off again without opening the velcro up. Turns the whole thing into an operation. Just as well the bike likes to warm a bit.
thats sort of the point. you dont want them coming off...it should require removing the velcro again. thats how they'll protect your hands in the event of a crash.

and if you're having trouble with them fitting over your sleeves there's something else going on-maybe jacket too big, dunno. Mine slip over my sleeves just fine, always have.

Thicker winter gloves get some getting used to.  I have just as good feel in my winters as my summers.

Wrecent - can you pull your sleeves up your arms?  If so, they're too loose.  They'll ride up your arms in a crash, too.  I'm having mine tailored for that same reason.

I have the Cold Front Carbons too...  When I first start wearing them, I feel like I'm wearing a triple-thick condom...  :icon_confused:

But after a bit, you get used to them...  Then when you switch back to thin gloves, it's weird.  :icon_confused:

I wore my alpinestars SP-1 gloves today since it was in the low 40's this morning...I noticed that they don't grip as well as my alpinestars SP-S gloves. Just seems like they slip on my girps a lot easier, not sure if it was always like this or not, haven't worn them for a few months.
