My roommate has a 2005 GS500f, which she dropped on the left side yesterday.  The bike was running when she dropped it, and when she started it prior to that it hadn't had any problems starting.  Now once we got the bike upright, it wasn't on it's side very long, And moved it a bit father down the driveway, and let it sit it wouldn't start again.  It wouldnt even make the clicking sound on the starter.  I check the clutch, the starter button, the battery, the kickstand switch, and check all the wiring.  What am I missing?  We can push start it.  I tried that twice to make sure, but cant get it started with the starter button.  It is also having a hard time shifting out of gears. for example, when it is in netrual, it is hard to get it into first, etc.  Am I missing something?

Check the switch under the clutch lever. They can get damaged in a drop.

As for the shifting, sounds like the clutch cable needs adjusting.
Common sense in not very common.

I did adjust the cable, but I hadn't had time to try it again.  I will check that switch again under the clutch lever, but I don't think it was damaged.

The bike did leak some gas while it was over on it's side.  I didn't think that was a huge deal though.

The shifting problem could be from the bike landing on the shifter. It could have bent a shift fork or something, unlikely from a standstill drop but it happens with crashes sometimes.

Once I couldn't get my starter to work, but I could bump start it. It turned out that one of the wires fell off the clutch sensor, just underneath the clutch lever. Check that, it could have come loose, I doubt it's broken but probally loose, jiggle the wires arround.

You and your roommate both have GS500s? Cool, a biker gang O0
good luck

That is kind of strange that it will bump start. Definitely check out the clutch aspect top to bottom and if that don't work, and if your not into tearing it apart to see what might of happened you probably should take it to the stealership, or happy wrenching  :thumb:
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

I'd rather bump start mine forever than take it to a dealership. Never will I have my bike worked on by a dealer. They would probally charge for 3 hours of labor for "diagnostic troubleshooting" just to plug a wire back in in 2 minutes.  :flipoff: them

There are two cables going into the clutch switch.

1.  Pull both cables from their connectors.
2.  Get a paper clip and make a connection between the two wires.
3.  Try and start it.

If it starts then open the switch box and if you look inside there is a white slider with metal patch on it.

Flip it around and reinstall it, everything should work fine.   But the bike will start even if you do not pull in the clutch so becarful.

I don't mind doing any work on the bikes myself.  I love getting my hands dirty.  Actually I have a SV650S, she has a GS500.  I checked to make sure that they Starter wires and everything were still connected and what not.  I will take a closer look at the clutch assembly today.  thanks for the help.
