Swngarm Extension

Ok...since I seem to be in a typing mood tonigh and thiniking of crazy crap to do to my bike over the winter I'll throw this question out...Anyone ever tried putting swingare extensions on a GS and/or would that be a less than intelligent  thing to do?

An extended bling arm is a must  ... everyone must have an extended blingarm  ...
Else the bling arm may be too short ...  I mean It will only be like 12 inches, and luckily for us the factory has gone ahead and installed an extended bling arm  ... so its already 24 inches, thank god.

yea do that . then have it cromed out .. and crome out everthing !!!! even your tires YES YOUR TIRES  then you well have the coolest bike ever !!! just j/k dont get your pantys in a bunch . theres no need to unless your going for looks . the gs dont come off the ground uless you use some cluch work. and if you make it longer ... kiss your corning good bye !

dont listen to these guys.  If you want to do it then do it... its your bike.  I dont think it would be too hard.  Take the break adjustment plates off and you'll see that the swing arm is hollow inside.  You could rig up something to fit inside there to extend it.  But be forwarned that your handling wont be quite as good.

hell if ou want to do it just look up extensions for a katana or gsxr or something and have a shop alter them to fit the GS.  It's your bike, do your own thing...that's why my bike has a single side swingarm, because I do my own thing.

























...though mine doesn't hinder performance or look stupid.

Yeah, it dosen't make any sense, but you could just weld some extensions on there, or make something that slips inside or outside the existing swingarm and bolt it on. You'd then need to extend the brake arm too, and beef it all up so it dosen't break. Of course it must also be chromed before use because, as we all know, crome dose make it go faster  Then put on a long chain on there and be prepared for all the weird looks you'll get.

Oh yeah, You'll need a stronger shock/spring because of the additional leverage on it.

I don't think anyone has ever tried to put an extended swingarm on a GS.  Intelligent thing to do. . . that depends on if you like the look or not.

People that do the extended swingarm do it either because they drag race their bikes or because they are making a show bike.

Personally I'm not into the extended swingarm's but I do like seeing showbikes.

Well I say do what ever you want to the bike.  There is another guy named Jim I think, that has a bike he has redone many times.  It has a 300 on the rear or something close to that big.  Yes it ruins the handling but if it still rides to the extent that you want and you like the looks then do it.

Jim Knopf has a GS with a 360 rear on it, stretched/chromed swingarm, etc... I would never ride it.. but it's cool to see what can be done.

While you would sacrifice handling and the ability to make quick turns ... you will also get a bike that is harder to wad ...
I have done lots of stupid things on cruisers, some of those I have repeated 2-3-4 times on different cruisers ... and the universal truth is ... cruisers are harder to crash. I have only crashed a cruiser once, that was cos I hit someone.
I have nailed it going down a wet highway on ramp making a hard left started to lowside and I plonk my left foot hard on the ground and shut the throttle and catch a dry section of the road all at the same time and nearly get launched into the freaking trees in a scary scary high side ... plonk my right foot on the road and correct it and run down to the highway like nothing happened. Oh yea both legs hurt like a mofo the instant I calmed down making me wonder why are they hurting.
