How do. I noticed that someone recently wrote about putting a different tail on their GS...so's this is why
Im posting this. Im making my own rear cowl outa fiber glass and using the old tail peices AND the plastic
mold that is inside the seat so the whole thingermajig will fit just like the old cowl peices did.
Not to mention that this one peice cowl thing will still snap into the seat lock so it wont fall
off and no one can steal it...
I took some pics of it looking pretty ruff needing to be sanded and gone over some more...
Im not sure what Im going to do for a rear tail light and blinkers...I was thinking perhaps
an old 64 impala tial light...kinda making the rear look a little rocket like?
...anyway...take a look, it looks sorta cruddy...but I aint done yet!

I do plan on making a seat that either snaps on or is velcro-ed...maybe even just a mouse pad..
Is that a turd on your upper lip?

Mandres

That's nice work, but it's freakin' huge.  Not my taste but I still want to see the pics when it's finished.

-M

-edit definitely make a good mold when you're finished, I bet you could sell a few and make it worth your while.

moon_raker

Im trying to stay away from "the cheese factor"....
You think its too big? You know, I was worried about that too...but I wanted the top of it to sorta match the rake of the tank.
Sorta level with it you know? It doesnt really sit much higher than where the lold seat was...like 2 inches higher. It might look
fat or big because the old side panels dont match what I have made yet...it should look better once its all one color.

I like the look of the old 500 and 250cc moto gp bikes from back in the day....I sorta wanted it biggish. Should match up
better once I get a bigger rear rim and tire combo...Im also gonna fab something up to beef up my swing arm.

Is that a turd on your upper lip?

ducati_nolan

Nice!  :thumb: It's oly a tiny bit big for my taste, but you're right, I have to wait 'til it's all done and paited to tell for sure. I definately looks like you do good work.

Mandres is right about making a mold, I bet you could sell a few of those. You could even have the top layer carbon fiber for some extra cool factor  O0 If you have good luck molding those, it may be worth trying to make a tank mold. I have thought about making a carbon fiber tank just for cosmetic reasons, but with everyone looking for new tanks to replace their rusty ones, there's definately a market for them.

You could do a whole body kit  O0
keep up the good work.

Heck Yeah... you get some molds made up for that thing you could sell quite a few. I'd buy one of those un-finished from you in a heartbeat. Keep us posted on the progress....Excellent job man :thumb:

It looks pretty good.  The lines are not exactly right tho.  if you reduce the rake/pitch of the tail end alittle it will be perfect.  That's what is causing it to look huge.   Nice job.  I think you've inspired me to kill my lungs some more with alittle fiberglass and bondo.

Hey, all you JLo-ass bashers, seriously: Who of you would turn that down if they got it served on a platter? Seriously?

Skinny it aint, but verrra shapely.

Just like your contribution moon raker. Dunno what it is, but something in that shape screams "Dinosaur" to me. Not that that is a bad thing. Would need to see you sitting on it for final judgement, though.

WREX

moon_raker - nice work.  glad to see more one off modding.  I think everyone appreciates the labour and skills involved in your work.

subjectives are always just that - subjective and people will have different opinons and tastes.   comparing it to modern sportbikes (think r6) who's tails are getting smaller and finer tipped it seems,  it definitley looks large in comparsion, so if one is into that kind of look, they'd probably opt for something smaller.  but against the old school gp or sportbike styles, it's looks about the same size, so if one is into that look, they go with something like yours.  Also, like Markus mentioned, I think it'd be a better perspective with a pic of you or someone on it when done.

personally, I like the smaller tails myself, but really at the end of the day, as long as you like what you end up with, that's the most important thing - it's you bike and no one elses!

keep it up and post pics when done.

NiceGuysFinishLast

I like it dude.  However, I agree with Jarrett, if you angle it down just a little bit more, I think it will follow the lines of the bike better.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

its alright i guess if you like  "Track bike" look and thats what i see when i look at it . not downing it or any thing .. i just want a small crowl to go on the back part of my rear seat that i can take off and on that way i can put stuff in it and still have the .. "small solo look :)

kinda of like this !
