So I am getting my bike race ready over the winter for some upcoming race days,

here are a couple of questions,

1. How do you safety wire the nuts for the oil filter cover. Did you use the stock nuts and drill through the rounded portion of the nut?

2. Do I need to safety wire the bolt on the bottom of the forks(i think it is the dampner rod bolt) or is there no fork oil behind it.

3. How did you saftey wire the pinch bolt on the fork tube.

And if anyone has the Carbon Fiber solo seats still around I am looking for one.

Thanks

all of those questions have the same answer...drill through the bolt or nut head and wire them off.

yes obviously that the point of saftey wire

I want to know how they drilled through, drilling the top of the acorn nut used on the oil filter will be kinda hard for me seeing how i have never had to do the drilling. You can also drill through the corner where two facets meet, but on a nut that can lead to disaster since you might break through into the threads

Also I want to know if I need to safety wire the bolt on the bottom of the fork tubes or not, and if I do what do they tie it to.

Again what did they tie the pinch bolt through since there are not really any bolts in the same  plane nearby

There are types of nuts and bolts out there that are specifically designed to accomodate being safety wired down. most of them are specific to the aviation industry. I don't know if it would work in all of the cases that you need but, if you give me size and thread pitch that you need I can get you specific part numbers that you can try and track down....Might keep you from messing things up trying to drill holes in things.

...Or do it the quicvk and dirty way and drill the holes yourself. No money involved and gets the job done

dgyver

Just drill a hole through the top of the acorn. Sometimes drilling 2 holes at different angles is easier. There are jigs that hold the nut, allowing you to drill through the sides.

The bolt at the bottom of the forks does not need to be wired.

As for the fork pinch bolt...I have swapped out the standard nut for a acorn nut and have drilled the sides of th standard other times. Then drilled the head of the bolt so they can be wired together.

You should be able to silcone on some fasteners (like the valve cover bolts), depending on the rules of the racing organization.
Common sense in not very common.
