CB radio troubles

Old Mr. Wilson

You are saying some things that I am VERY confused about. First of all...........why in the living hell are you hooking up 12 volts to the bullhorn? Listen...........all the CB's I dealt with have a mini-jack in the rear for the bullhorn (tip and ring).
The "mini-plug" (the male) has two wires that are soldered to it. THESE go DIRECTLY to the bullhorn speaker. NOT any power source (like the battery or the fuse block).

All you have to do is hook up your power (pos and neg correctly) to the radio. Run the two wires
from the bullhorn to the mini-plug (TWO WIRES) ONLY and plug the sonofabitch in. That's IT.

You should be in business unless you have some twisted scheme that I've never heard of.
You'd better get that "DC" off that horn or you are going to burn up the voice coil. Who or what
prompted you to run the damned battery to the bullhorn? Try what I have told you. Exactly.

All you have to do is hook up your power (pos and neg correctly) to the radio. Run the two wires
from the bullhorn to the mini-plug (TWO WIRES) ONLY and plug the sonofabitch in. That's IT.
And make sure you don't let them touch in the plug. Mini-jacks are small and larger wiring can
be a prob in that situation. Do NOT hook that bullhorn to the battery again. IM me and let me know
how you are doing.

wilsons got it, cb has two wires coming out of it. a black one, (ground), and a red one (+12v), and the aforementioned 1/8" mono jacks, pa speakers  use that. radio shack has teh plugs cheap, and do NOT hit the transmit key in cb mode, w/o an antenna, usually = bad. btw those radios are the best damned radar detectors ever made, try listening in on the interstate, hell youll know where every damned cop is miles b4 you get close. back to the main connections, power ground and , occasionally there are three of them, the third being a yellow wire, (constant 12v)(memory)i know my sideband radio has that along with the ohters as well

MMO is absolutely correct and I apologize for not mentioning it. I got "locked in" on your "PA" prob.
If you try to operate the transmitter without load (antenna or dummy load) it could cause the RF
final transistors to fail or at least what we call "get soft". So don't do that either or we will be back
at that 30 to 50 bucks an hour "shop labor". I hope all your problems are solved now. PM or email
me if you'd like and tell me how things went. Hope we helped and thank you MMO. Wilson
