:? If you've read the other post regarding frankenbike, you know the story. heres another one. when i took it out after work tonight, in 1st, accelerating, i decided to open her up a bit. frankenbike liked that. tried to do a roll on wheelie (i backed off the gas!)in second, accelerated hard like in 1st, but w/o the roll-on. is this thing supposed to have that much spunk?, i am 5'11" 165lbs. frankenbikes never been touched internally (stock). except for the carb cleaning i gave it. gotta change plugs though. i think they are somewhat fouled. i put them in day 1 (6 mos. ago) when i had carb probs. the plugs are really not an issue much, but 6 month old gas, may have something to do with the occasional moodiness it gets when i fire it up cold. but when she warms up WHOA. that much fun should be illegal. after this long winded intro, heres the question. does anyone have any idea in the first three gears where the power band range is (rpm's) thanks for any explanations :thumb:

Well the gs really makes no power til it hits 3-4K RPMs...

Definitely drain that old gas out and get some new gas. New plugs wouldn't hurt either. Maybe clean the ones you have ( or clean them and keep as spares...).
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

You are going to have a seriously hard time doing roll-on wheelies on a stock GS500.  Even with some power-mods, the bike just isn't strong enough to do it w/o clutch work.  I'll let others on the board answer about doing clutch wheelies.  Also, ask Srinah about rejetting to help with warm-up time.

Since the bike uses the same engine for gears 1-6, the answer for 1-3 applies to 4-6, too.  The GS starts to make power just above 3000 rpm and the meat of the powerband (ie fun zone) is above 7500 and starts to dip a little before the redline so you will want to short-shift before hitting the rev limiter.

The simple answer is 7500-10000 RPM
and the GS doesn't have an actually rev limiter. The valves just start floating around 11k RPM which sort of puts a damper on things ;)

Why do I get the feeling you do this often?   :thumb:     :)

Fussy,  you mentioned "Clutch work" what kind of mod is available for the clutch.  I have replaced disks and springs, but I feel the clutch still may slip ever so slightly when above 5 or 6 K.

Thanks,
Paul

He means working the clutch.. ie, pulling it in revving, and then dropping it... which will result in a wheelie.

Clutch Mod? ya want one?. i have one for ya, and its working like a camp so far.

simple, find an old GS450, pull out the clutch parts, save the springs, bolts and plates.  sort through the fibre plate, pull out about 6 of the best ones, or if you like buy new ones,(soak them in motor oil for 24hours before installing)  the IDEA, is to take an extra steel plate from the gs450 and use it as a spacer.  stagger stact the rest of the plates like you normaly would ending with a fiber plate then pressure plate. now, use the shorter gs450 springs and bolts,  tighten down normaly in star pattern and reinstall the cover, add oil ect ect

do this mod at own risks.  it works for me, im 6' 250 and it will grab
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

Just a quick question.....When dumping the clutch to do a wheelie am I suppose to pull up on the handlebars? I can get the front up slightly but for only about 1 second.

oh boy, hope you have heath insurance !

you want to feather the clutch, not dump it. if you feather it, you can get it up easily and controlled.

keep in mind it's only fun/cool the first few times, then it's stale. if you crash out your bike those first times, you don't get the use of it later on ;)

Well what I do is out 1 finger on the clutch go about 5 mph rev it up to 8000 let it out fast and then it goes up. Is that feathering or dumping IDK!

I find my bike won't lift if I keep the speed that low... I have to be going at least 15 in 1st around 4k rpm, then pull, rev to about 8, 9ish and dump.. then bang.. up.

Slow wheelies scare me.   :icon_rolleyes:

Skeets

My bike won't wheelie at that speed.

Mine wheelies just fine but I always just lean against the fence and watch it go by with my buddy on it when it does that...
