NEED CA DMV help / insight / favor.....

I got an old race car out of a junk yard a couple of years ago
someone owned it in CA...late 60's-early 70's
it has a CA assigned ID #

1  I would like to return it to the track.....get a vintage log book on it
2  I would like to return it to the street....get it registered
3  I would like to know the race history of the car

does anybody work for DMV or have good luck with friend/relative?
would like to do a title search/registration search/ find out owner who converted an open wheel race car to a street car

I have pics and can get rubbings of the ID plate..

or if anybody has done this....some linkys or advice
