I figured out my oil leak...thought it was the breather dripping, its the right side plate. Has 10 or so bolts. Looks like I'll have to do every thing that it would take to replace the clutch, to bad its ok. Anyway, does anyone have a step by step? Are there any torque settings on the case bolts? The large bolt below the ignition? Is there a gasket, or just sum kind of seal? I'd like to tackle this sunday, but the stealership is closed. Any info? Thanx in advance

I just fixed my leaking oil pan gasket. I hate getting raped by the bike shop, so I just bought some gasket material and made my own.

To replace the right side cover gasket, you'll need to remove the ignition pickuo rotor, then just remove the engine side cover and replace the gasket. I couldn't find the torque value for the bolts, but they're pretty small so they probally just ned to be snugged up evenly in a crisscross pattern.

I find that using high temp 1/32" gasket material works pretty well. If you smear some anti sieze or grease on the engine cover and lay it on the sheet of gasket material, it will give you a good outline of your gasket. Make sure to punch out the bolt holes before you cut out the gasket, otherwise the gasket may tear. A leather punch works pretty well for the bolt holes. Then put a little gasket sealer on there and put it all back together.
good luck

Thanx ducati! I searched some older posts and sounds like that is some what of a weak spot for leaks. I went around and retightened the bolts, a couple were loose, that slowed it way down. I may just what for a while. Plan on a new pipe, rejet and k and n pod, so I'll just add that to the list. Grew up toyn with vw aircooled so I know all to well about aircooled and leaks!
Thanks for the info, besafe out there!!! :)

The large bolt below the ignition cover ... huge huge chrome bolt ~19mm head. Very very very important it doesn't leak ... or even have anything close ... you also dont want stripped threads or anything bad in that ... its the plug to the main oil galley. Lose it while running and you'd lose all oil pressure instantly and lose the entire contents of your crank case in a matter of seconds. It will spray your right side with hot oil and spray the rear wheel and the vehice next to you ... so good chance he will slide into you ... That big cover ... bleeh ... ignore it, also the ignition thing should be dry ... make sure of that, it has the pressure switch inside it on the bottom.

Thanx srinath, pretty sure the right case seal is toast, sux it only has 6500 miles on it! Some of the bolts were tight, some were loose. Loose at the leak. To bad I juat can pour some shaZam! in the case on seal it, don't really wanna deal with it. Maybe some epoxy..... Besafe!

What you mean by right side case. Clutch cover, ignition cover ... or the crankcase seal in the ignition cover.
Cool.

Sorry no pic avail, ah right side, if you take off the ignition cover, it would be the next case/plate that you'd take off, has 10 or so bolts and that large bolt through it that we talk bout b4... Am I telling it right? I'd say its the rt hand case or the clutch cover... Manual is on order... Whatcha think? Besafe!

Make sure in that round plate that its not leaking out of that small fitting that gets a wire to it on the lower 1/2 of the ignition unit. That is oil pressure sending unit. Also under pressure. However its tapered 1/8th pipe. If its loose, tightening it will produce dramatic results. If its over tightened and hence leaking ... you are frocked ... its prolly split that section of the case. Either case, remove it and closely inspect it, if its good, put it back with silicone or other thread sealer and back in and dont over tighten.

I haven't checked under the ignition cover yet, my socket set doesn't have one that small...but it doesn't seem to becoming from there, its closer to the break pedal, that side, at first thought it was the breather dripping. I took a look at the airbox and it was oil less...that's when I suspected the case. It went around and tightened the 13 bolts, 4 were not real tight in the area of the leak. That slowed it way down, guess I need to tear that side of and replace the gasket. How big of a deal is that? Straight foward? That sucks case I wanted to do the pipe, rejet,k and n mod. Damm oil leak! :)
