Anyone else run into trouble with #4 washers

I've got a feeling that the #4 washers I'm using are too wide (outside diameter).  It seems that inside the slide, the stock spacers fit inside of a well or depression at the bottom of the slide.  If the washer I use is wider than the stock spacers than it will hold the circlip about 1mm above this well, Which would be waaaay to high and explain why my bike acts as though its runny very rich at idle (bogs down and dies, will not idle for longer than 30 seconds) after a rejet to 125/40.

Do the spacers even sit down inside of this "hole" or do they float on top too?

Am I thinking correctly or am I beign a stupid noob.  Since I rejetted my bike is acting a little crazy below 3 or 4 k rpm and if I let it drop below 1.5k it just slows down, coughs and dies. Is my home made carb balancer just lying to me and I actually wacked my carbs way out of balance when i thought i was balancing them.  Its beautiful out and I was so sure I'd be ridnig by now.  So frustrated.  :mad:

The #4 washers I bought fell all the way down the hole. They did not get stuck halfway down. Having said that, it should be noted that #4 washers don't work for everyone. Adding just one washer fouled my plugs in a few minutes at idle. So take #4 washers with a grain of salt?

By the way the order goes like this. From top to bottom as if the needle were sitting in the slide
Maybe you're putting it on wrong

Wrecent Wryder,

I'm on an '00

Any chance you'd be willing to look at this one of these days if you feel confident about your carb knowledge.  This is my first bike and first real wrenching, I think I just need someone with a little more experience to give me a hand.  I can compensate with beer, money, whatever (well, no sexual favors, thats not my thing, annaguyen sounds a little desperate though).

I'm not dumb, just inexperienced when it comes to this.  I really need to get this taken care of so I can get the bike somewhere to be inspected and get my title and real registration. And who knows, maybe ride it before the snow hits and I move back to ohio.

Tuss,

I'm on an '00 and the carbs, when I opened them up had this

                         |
   <ufo thing for the spring>
                <circlip>
        <bead looking thing>
<one more crazy white plastic spacer> (kinda like the UFO thing)
   <I put my washer here>

                         |
                         |
                        V

I know the P.O. did something with the carbs - should that extra white spacer not be there since you only mention one plastic spacer below the clip?

The reason that the #4 washers gave you problems but work fine for others is very simple:

#4 only refers to the size of the hole, not the outside diameter of the washer.  Different manufacturers supply #4 washers of different sizes, and some are too big to fit into the depression in the slide.

Don't sound so angry - I'm just a noob remember.   :dunno_white:
I figured as much, but I want to confirm it and make sure the waser was SUPPOSED to slide into this hole and whether or not I can blame this for the crazy idle behavior.

Just want to make sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree

(if I were a lot younger, you could introduce me to Jordan though..)
You'd never want that. Shes crazy. Crazier than most women. Not in any kind of good way. Never tell her I said that.

hehe, sorry man I didn't mean to come off as angry.  I just bolded it so that maybe people will remember it next time the issue comes up.  I was very confused by the same issue when I decided to rejet and I wish someone had been there to clarify it.

Do yo remember where you picked those washers up?  I've been to home depot but the smallest they have is #4 and they are the ones that are too wide. I went thhere again hoping to scrounge something up.

Instead I got the stuff to remake my carb balancer with a valve between the lines so I could "disable" the thing instead of sucking water into the carbs every time I tried to start the bike when the carbs were out of balance

If you want some #4 washers that will fit, PM me your address, and the total thickness (amount of lift) you desire.  I'll find a combination that will come close.
