DIY Seat Modification for Comfort?

Hey guys,

I am 6'1 and riding the GS squeezes my nuts against the gas tank. I keep sliding down toward the tank and no matter how often I adjust my ass toward the posterior, I end up hugging the tank with my nuts. I am wondering what these vibrations will do to my reproductive ability. It is also highly uncomfortable.

I can't afford to buy a $300 dollar seat. I read on the Wiki that some have inserted gel into their seats. I am calling these individuals to perhaps give me a rough idea of what it takes to modify my seat.

I can't take it anymore. Everytime I think of my GS, I get a sharp sensation of pain in my groin.

Thanks

im 6'1" 200 and i fit fine on mine, i have an 05.  I actualy cant help moving away fro the tank, i slide back...  the tank protector helped out alot, easier to grip.., especially around turns i dont slide as much..

I weigh around 160 pounds. What is this tank protector you speak of?

I'd recomend keeping your eye on ebay, and/or post a wanted add on this site for a used seat with some dammage. If you can find a seat with a torn cover, you should be able to get it for cheap, then you can play arround with shaping the foam, and/or adding gel untill you get something comfortable. Once you get the shape right, you can cover it yourself or take it to an upholstry shop.

Buying a dammaged seat will keep your stock seat intact in case you screw up. Also you can sell it to recoup your costs.

For your situation, it sounds like it's more the angle than the type of padding that's bothering you. If you add some foam in the front to reduce the forward angle, I bet that would help a lot.

Good luck.

I'm 6'2" and I had the same problem.
I got another old seat and carved up the foam as a wedge to level the seat.
Other than getting heavy on the brakes, I stay back with no effort.
It keeps the hide from shearing while you slide forward.  No more burning quads from continual repositioning. Less lock knee issues with an extra 3/4" height.

how are you supporting your body weight?  if your riding properly, you should be griping the tank with your knees, hold yourself up with your abs.  i used to slide all over the place when i was trying to just use my arms to support myself.  made me bust my nuts frequntly, an also had fatigue in my shoulders, an arms.  this may not be what your problem is, but its free info that made my riding experince a whole lot better.

I used high density, closed cell foam cut from a gardening kneeling pad to build up my seat. I built it up over the existing seat cover, and used a double layer of black shower curtain to cover it.  I held it down with small wood screws.  It looks a little low-tech and rough around the edges, but it is super comfy and I can easily undo it later.

Ok, it's not really hard or anything.

Unless you want the seat to look nice, then it's a Buddha Loves You.

Buy a used seat
