Seat Lock

Has anyone else ever lost the the lock cylinder from the seat lock? A couple of days ago one of my gloves fell of the seat as I was getting ready to roll, and as I was picking it up I noticed that there was a hole where I had not noticed one before. I studied it for a while before realizing what was missing. The first thing I thought was  " How will I explain to the nice Officer that my bike really is mine and that my registration really is under the seat but I just can't get to it right now?"As I got up to my usual 80MPH cruising speed ( hence the officer thing ) I reached down to touch the frame below the seat and realized just how much high frequency vibration that motor puts out at 7,000 plus RPM. No wonder it fell off!! With only two very small srews to hold it in place from the back, I am surprized it lasted as long as it has. The last time I tried to turn it, it almost wouldn't; I should have known right ?  I have a black "00" model that once belonged to ED in AZ and was purchased by my brother Kerry ( yes THE Kerry). I purchased it in April of '05 with 8811 miles showing. Today I changed the oil again at 32025.7!! That's a lot of oil, filters ,and tires with some brake pads thrown in too.Anyway, neither of the two 'stealers' near me have one in stock and the price for the cylinder only is $34-$35. There are only a couple of these bikes here in central Arkansas that I have ever come across and there are none at the only salvage yard I am familiar with; many Suzukis but no GS Twins. Would any similar Suzuki lock cylinder work in there, providing I get a key with it? Anybody know?

Yeah, I lost one of the screws that holds my lock on, so I got a new one and put locktight on it. About a week later the other screw fell out  Get some of the cheap low strenght locktight and it will keep all your little nuts and bolt where they should be.

I don't know about getting a new lock, but you can pull on the cable with a pair of pliers to get the seat off. Pliers are cheper than a new lock and you can get a little set that fits on your key ring. Good as new!
good luck

A few weeks ago, my daughter and I rode two up.  We stopped at our zoo and when we tried to "pop" the seat to lock our helmets we noticed the lock cylinder was gone.  I am not sure how long it has been gone.  So we carried our helmets.

The only way I figured to get into it was to remove the screws from the rear fender and it fell down onto the wheel.  I then took a screw driver to manually "trip" the latch to release the seat.

+1 on this method.

Although my lock didn't fall out.  When I took the rear fairings off, I disconnected the lock cable, but forgot to put it back when I reassembled everything.

Gentelmen! We have a god among us!  jk

The same thing happened to my lock, the cylinder was just gone one day. It seemed to expensive to replace. So the first time I needed the seat off at home I reached up inside with some needlle nose pliers and pulled down on the wire. Next I ran a zip tie through the metal clip at the end of the wire, effectively making a pull handle.

Now when I need the seat off I just run my finger and the loop and pull the cable down.

It just seemed more practical to do that rather than by a new tumbler and have it cut to my key etc etc. alhouthg it should be noted that I keep my registration/proof of insurance in my left jacket pocket, which I never ride without.

I guess it would make more sense to carry it on my person, but depending on the weather I change jackets. Like this past week it was in the low 80s and then the low 40s. That's Arkansas this time of year, and I commute on the old girl everyday no matter what. Tommorrow it is supposed to really rain. I look at it as; If you are going to ride,,,, RIDE!!   Thanks for all of the replies.

Where are these screws located?  Also, what type of Locktite should I use to keep them from falling out?
