magnets on tank bags

Just read the post regarding tank bags.  I'm convinced to start looking for one online.  But that's not the point.  I began wondering about the inability of many bikes to trigger traffic signals.  Then I remembered that the fix is a magnet placed on the bike.  Hmmmm, is the magnet on a tank bag strong enough to serve a dual-purpose...hold the bag AND trigger stoplights???  Just wondering...

Yeah! And another benefit you might not be aware of is that the magnets on the gas tank work the same as those ones you put on the fuel line to get you a 75% improvement in gas mileage!!

Magnetic tank bags are da bomb!  As long as you never drop it in the sand and check it for paperclips/staples on the bottom before you use thwm they are the best solution IMHO.  I use a Marsee magnetic expandable bag and have gotten my money's worth to be sure.

Unfortunately, no.  I've been using a magnetic tank bag for a LONG time now, and I couldn't trigger the local traffic light until yesterday - after I mounted a pair of magnets closer to the ground.

The magnets cost me $3.92 each (plus tax) at Lowe's, one of my my local home centers.

Ah, but if you live in or are riding through Tennessee, you don't have to worry about your bike not tripping the light.
You can turn left or go through the intersection as long as you look and make sure the coast is clear.
New law in effect 7/1/03.

I'm surprised you guys have problems triggering traffic lights; it's never been an issue for me.

Personally, I prefer to never trigger them-- because it would mean I wouldn't be triggering speed cameras, bus lane cameras, red light cameras... There's 6 speed cameras between my house and my brother's, 1 1/2 hours away.

We don't have those cameras here.   :nana: Just annoying red lights that stay red forever if a car doesn't happen to pull up behind you.
