The moment you've all been waiting for...

Ok right off the bat I'm going to list all the issues that will come with owning this...just to try and make sure they're known ahead of time.

Mild steel will rust.  That means this will have to be painted, brushed and oiled every day, or jet-hot'ed (or similar).

You will have to have your old centerstand stop welded up...or ditch the stand...or something.  I'm going to TRY and figure something out but I make no promises.

You will have to cut up your exhaust to fit this.

With the baffle in you can probably get away without rejetting with no serious problems.  With the baffle out you will have to rejet in order to keep things going propperly.

I'm only one person and I will only sell these one at a time to keep myself from being swamped under.

I think that's it for the big stuff, further details with pics...so on to some pics:

Turn signals will have to be removed.

I have them to where it'll tuck in very close to the tail.  I thought about asking Cuda if we could lay the bike over to check clearance in a fall but figured I'd wait til it was my bike I was tinkering with.

The clearance bend doesn't extend any further than stock.

There really wasn't much to suspend the can from so I'll be working off the stock mount.  I'm pretty sure the tubing is up to the task but should there be problems I will address a hanger.

Here you can see the joint quality.  There was a little bit of blow-through from when I tacked it all together but the majoraty of each seam is flush.

Though not pictured, the cans will be springs...I think.  I'm not 100% on this because I'm not sure of how available springs that suit my needs are, or how much they cost.

I'm offering the cans with black covers or blue covers.  I can get red covers but they usually look faded like the one above.  Or the cover can be taken off and go with bare stainless.

Now, the big thing, is how much is it worth?  I said I'd let GSTwins decide the price (within reason you boobs), so I'd like some serious suggestions.

They cost me $74 USD a piece to make (pieces for slip flange, clamp, one 180* mandrel bend, muffler, shipping), require about 4 hours of my personal time, and I will hurt myself physically during the contruction of each one (ask Cuda).

There you have it.

OK.. besides that.. nice work man.. really... I know I have given you some shaZam! in the past but the setup looks cool... but painting and oiling every day ???

Still nice work.. looks cool  :thumb:

Sound clips would rock!  :thumb: :thumb:

Bike was cold so I didn't have him really get on it.  Few exhaust leaks, too...everything was just tacked together at the time.  buttoned up there'll be abit less rasp.  This was also witht he baffle out.

...or...

Sounds cool....

Is that WD-40 can standard in all your posts :)

looks like a can off a car :( but looks cool none the less

makenzie71

I'm sure they had cars in mind when they made it...but it's simply not suitable for anything pounding more than 650cc of material around.  Two are barely enough for my TL.

94suzuki500

I dont know about that, looks pretty wack.  The long pipe going from under the bike to the can really draws attention from the can itself.  I think it would look better if the can was mounted more near stock or maybe kinda like the new gsxrs.

makenzie71

The finnished up pipe isn't nearly as distracting.  A big rusty pos sitting int he middle of a clean bike will always be hard to miss.

I think a little bend up and then out after the mounting point to make it more even w/ the rear body line would be perfect  :thumb:

I didn't do that because of the different tails between the older GS's and newer ones.  It also would have looked goofy and possibly rendered the rear peg useless due to heat.

cuda_06

That sound clip really doesn't do the system justice.  It sounded much better in person even with it only being tacked.  Almost  mean enough to make you forget it's only a 500.

Ok.. now that we see you have a GS to play w/ make duals w/ those  :icon_mrgreen:

That's Cuda's GS...it's a couple hours from me.

makenzie71

oh and running duals would be troublesome.  I would have to find a different muffler...it's flow capacity is too big to use two of them on such a small bike.  Alternatives are slim pickin's without spending a small fortune.

NiceGuysFinishLast

Mak, if I were to buy a can of some sort (dunno what yet) and send it to you, could you fab it up to the same piping? Just out of curiosity (I may be coming into a well paying job soon, so I'll have extra money for mods)

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

well .. really ..... would you see a diffrence if you had one mounted like that or one mounted like the buells ? i like it tucked underbetter but is there clearnce problems .. i do like to get pretty low :)  i just dont like the high mount systems .. but the real Q here is .. is there a hp diffrence ? i know putting a new can on there dont do much .. but ... just wanting to know .. i guess the only real way to find out is put it on a dino huh ?

makenzie71

You're not going to be able to built a belly exhaust without jacking the ride height up tremendously...like dirtbike high.  Too much suspension play.

With propper jetting there's going to be a power difference but yeah, it'll have to be on a dyno to get a number.

well since you're doing custom orders I'll take one of these:

...sorry, that car-can looks hacked.

:dunno_white:

Jared

I like  the sound when it's wound up a little....and yeah I'm sure it sounds better in person...

Doing one under the bike will kill any power the Gs makes in the lower rpms...let alone clearance issues as Mak said.

I was tinkering with making a buell style one before... I was going to off set the pipes to the shifter side...run them to the rear and then bring them back forward (make the collector area closer to the front of the engine and run a single..)...

Anyway I was going to run it back-forward and back again and have it exit just behind the brake pedal... (Maybe work out a baffle or something..who knows..) problem is the tight turns  will  kill power... The other idea I had was to essentially make a large muffler (boxish) under the  bike and weld up the same thing inside the "muffler" but the square section might not flow so great either...... Plus the clearance issues...

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
Yeah that was me.    One of my rides
