Bar Ends

whatsup guys? I've got an 04 gs500f and the handle bar ends have come out, for the second time. The first time I lost them I replaced them with stock ends again, but I lost both today at some point, I guess they flew off while riding. NOT COOL. $$$$ for me and I'd hate to think what could happen to someone hit with one of those bar ends going 70mph... Anyway, maybe I am missing something, but why do the stock ones come out? Are there any aftermarket ones that will stay in better? Perhaps not using that screw in expandeable rubber thing? I'm hoping to spend less than the $40 it would cost for stock ends, so let me know.

Yeah, I'd like to know more about the process one member went through to add more rubber to the mounting section of the bar ends.  Not only does that help them stay in better, but it cuts down on vibration too.

Never had mine come off but I do know other members have.  After reading about it I just check to make sure they are tight before I go for a ride.  You can get after market bar ends from Lock Heart phillips.

Use Loctite on the threads with the next set, whatever kind you choose.

Someone mentioned spraying the rubber with hair spray before inserting them into the bars. I did not get a chance to try it when mine got loose, but it makes sense if you ask me.

I did someting similar. I had a problem with my barends coming out, so I took some superglue and applied it to the rubber before I stuck them in. When I had to take them out in late August to change out my bars, the rubbers wouldn't come out without some serious coaking from a pair of needlenose pliers.

if you use hairspray the surface of the bar must be clean. then make sure you let the spray dry, give it a good 12 or so hours. I use the same technique on my BMX bikes and it works real well. If not they also make grip glue if youu wanna spend the $5 or so it costs for it.

Don't use hair spray.  It'll wear out and break loose.  Use liquid dish soap...like dawn.  Just rub a light coat on with your finger and then slap it in.

Same thing goes for grips.

...stuff also works great on dishes.
