We live about 30 seconds away from the protest site, and to be perfectly honest with you, the media really made it look like something it wasn't. Yes, there were a few days that were pretty intense (burning tires, burning cars, blocked roads, no electricity, etc.) but for the most part it was a few natives sitting in lawn chairs at the protest site. School was cancelled one day, and we were without electricity for three days. Otherwise it really didn't effect anyone at all, only the people involved. A lot of the residents here thought it would be a good idea to fight against them, which only made matters worse. As for now it's safe, and as far as I know it's still just a few natives sitting in lawn chairs on the protest site.
