So I finally got some heated gloves. I bought the Harley Davidson heated gloves (no, sorry, i'm not joking!). They seemed to be a fairly good deal compared to other brands. I went for a ride tonight and I didn't really even have to turn them on for a while. They do keep your hands nice and warm though. I will see how they do tomorrow morning when it's really cold. The one downside is that they are a little bulky....but you can't complain too much because they keep your hands warm. Another thing I'm worried about is the lack of protection.....It's pretty much just leather with a heated lining.

I considered heated gloves for a minute...went instead with heated grips. That way I dont have to remember to bring the right gloves and if I get caught out in the cold I just click them on. I love them but get tons of grief having them on my 600rr...until we ride in the cold...

not true. must have been someone that doesnt have them saying that. The thing is the heated grips allow more blood to flow to your hands. without them, when you get cold your body hoards bloodflow away from your extremeties as an act of self preservation. Having heated grips will not only keep all your hands warm but will go a long way in keeping you warmer overall. it does not replace the beauty of a heated vest (which I also use and recommend)...oh my.

I can also use my gloves on any bike....and I didn't feel like installing heated grips.

good point, and useful if you have more than one bike. Also useful if you remember to bring them. I only have one bike and if I happen to get caught in a bit of cold I'm still fine...both have their pro's and cons.

I've never gotten caught out in the cold...it's either cold when I go for a ride, or it's not. If I go on a long trip, I would just throw them in my bag. I don't think I would forget them, since they sit right with my other gloves.

I get caught in the cold often. Here on the SoCal coast It can be HOT inland, or even where I am 20 blocks from the beach, but a few minutes up PCH and the fog rolls in, dropping the temp like crazy. Or I expect it to be a warm day but the temp when I leave to meet the guys is cold. that happens often. I wont wear my heated vest unless Its cold when I leave and gonna stay cold-like when I ride angeles crest in the winter (there's snow up there)...

You've got your system down for the gloves, thats good.

What gloves do you normally wear? And where did you get your heated grips kit? I may give it a shot. It is kinda annoying having to put these gloves on for quick trips. Maybe the heated grips would work for that.

i only have one pair of gloves-Alpinestars SP-1's.
I have heated grip elements (they go under your existing grips), not actual grips. They work great. I bought mine from...agh, dont remember but you can also get them from Aerostitch. I think those are better than what I got. They're only $27 or so. Easy to install.

Anybody ever used, or seen anything like this before?

I think I will just order this though...because there is no resistor, just a little easier to install.

this is the one I have:
dual-star

they have hi and lo settings but in order to prevent the heat sink effect (where the right grip gets significantly hotter due to being on the plastic throtte body instead of the metal bar) you have to wire it as one temp setting. This is included in the instructions.

see that little toggle switch on the fairing?

and the wires come out between the grip and switchgear, to the bottom.
you can barely see them poking out here:

so inexpensive-well worth it!

I wish I had a spot like that to mount it, I have a round rocker switch which I would like to use, or I can use the toggle switch. But I can't find a place to mount either of them. I might have to make a bracket that comes off the brake fluid mount or something.....

Do you just use normal grip glue? Or do you need to use a high temp epoxy? When putting the grips back on.

okay, i got it and everything is installed but....i decided to install an inline fuse for them. i put a 2 amp fuse in, and it blew, so i tried another, then i got out a 10amp so i could try and get a reading before it blew the fuse. and it blew the damn 10amp fuse!! i can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. it's like they are going to ground. i don't really know what to do other than blame the heat elements. possible defective?

I dont have time atm but I have an answer for you...be back soon. basically you need to run a relay, not a fuse I believe.

but a relay doesn't protect it, that's just a means of turning something on and off. a fuse or circuit breaker will protect it from over drawing and burning itself up.

I did all the wiring just like in the diagram. I got my hot line from a running light so that it will only come on when my key is on. I'm not blowing the fuse in the fuse box for the bike. I'm blowing the fuse that I put in that goes to the heated grips...

I have a different diagram I was given by some people that tour. I dont know if I have it here or at work. Let me check.
I did a relay, that allowed me to wire it to my brake lights, and I used an inline fuse from a heated vest wiring kit.
