So my bike has been sitting in my garage for about a month, sad i know, but yesterday i went out to start it and it didn't even attempt to turn over.  It did make a clicking noise that seemed to come from the starter relay.  So i guess im thinking that this has to be the problem, but is there anyway to check.  Also if it turns out that it is broken, does anyone have this part it is part #31800-01D00 on ron ayers.  Anyone else have this problem either?  Thanks for any help

Clicking starter relay usually means tired battery. Try first if a decent charge is not all you need.

The battery is fairly new, but charging it would be your suggestion and then see if the relay is still clicking?

Jughead

Yes it's the Battery. The reason the Relay is Clicking is Because the battery doesn't have Enough Current to Pop it into Place and Hold it there to start it.
If it's Not Broke Modify it.

Yep.

Clicking comes like this:

Starter relay closes, Starter begins to draw current (and lots of it.) This causes the voltage in the battery to drop. If it drops too low, the starter relay solenoid lets go, opening the circuit.

If the battery is new and already weak again the charging circuit may be the clulprit. This may have caused the "bad" old battery all along.

The battery will lose its charge after sitting for a while even if there is no drain on it.  Charge it at 1.1 amps for 10 hours, or bring it to a place like Pepboys and have them charge it (they'll charge it a lot faster).  Then, get a battery tender to keep the battery charged while you're not using the bike.

I have been dealing with this problem also. I haven't riden in about 1 or 2 weeks and when I would try to start it, my bike was trying to turn over then it would start making the clicking sound. I researched on this site for a battery charger and I decided on a Schumacher 2/4/6 amp one from Walmart. 28 bucks total. There is a cheaper one that is 1.5 amps for 18 bucks but I bought this one in case I ever need it for a car. I actually just finished charging it an hour ago and I fires up like a champ. Much better than paying close to 60 bucks for a new battery. :thumb:
