Has your speedometer cable ever snapped?

Yes
No
Many Times

Jarrett

Was riding last week and looked down to check my speed and was supprised.  Nothing.  Took the bike home and started tearing things apart only to find my speedo cable had snapped in two.  Has this ever happened to you?  It took about a week for a new one to come in, and I really don't like cruisin the highway at unknown speeds.  Police officer that pulled me over didn't like it either, so if this is a common occurance, I'd be better off ordering another one soon to keep as a back up.

Mine has never snapped but it has come unscrewed about 3 times and was dragging on the road for 50 miles onetime.

I'm so familiar with my RPM's in a given gear that it wouldn't really be a problem.

It seems to be a problem if the cable is not lubed correctly. Mine has never snapped.. it has come unscrewed once. My tach cable has come unscrewed 3 times. The screws in my head have always been loose.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

A turn or two of PTFE tape on the threaded bosses will prevent speedo/tacho cable bezels from loosening off.

Budrick320

Is that the kind of tape you use for pipes an such??

Yeah....thin and white, used for sealing pipe threads.
