What should I do with the tail of my GS?

I sent pictures to a guy on GeorgiaSportBike.com of my subframe, and asked him for an estimate. His estimate, based solely on the pictures was $150-$250. That's just to bend the subframe back to normal, so I can mount stock tail plastics. I honestly don't want to spend that kind of money just to go back to stock.

Turd told me I should take a sawsall, chop it all off and make it streetfighterish/Ducati Monsterish.

That actually kind of appeals to me...

My other thought was either an R6 or CBR600F4i tail. Both are about $100 on ebay, and I'm pretty sure I could get one even cheaper from a local bike junk yard. However, doing an R6 or F4i tail requires the stock subframe, or some other straight subframe. I'm thinking I could just go to a junkyard, chop off the correct subframe and take the plastics, and figure something out. Problem is, I can't weld.

Gurus, what say you?

Why is that guy so f*cking huge on his SV?

I'm actually seriously contemplating it. Things stopping me: I don't know how to fab a seat. I'm not sure how I'd mount a taillight.

But seriously.. that looks f*cking cool, IMHO. It's the cheapest too.. cuz I could sell my cracked plastics for cheap for track plastics and I've got a pristine set of '06 tail plastics that would probably fetch a pretty penny...

All it would cost is whatever fabbing a seat costs, and some sort of custom taillight.

Dude, get an SV subframe, hack off the back part, get an LED light bar to fab up as a tail light, and weld it on. Easy.

And the seat? Stock SV seat? 1st gen or 2nd gen?

Looks like that guy was using the stock seat from his 2nd gen SV. Whichever subframe you find, just use the stock one. Hell, any subframe with a two tier seat will work.

The frame of your gs is steel and the subframe of other bikes are aluminum.  Youll have to weld tabs and then bolt it on.

For once, I actually agree with this guy.

You'll likely have to bolt it up.  Either way, F&$#N do it!  It'll be uber sweet.

Ahh.. good point... I'll have to look into pricing for that... but it should be cheaper than the $150-$250 I was quoted to put it back to stock... Plus, I can probably sell my new tail plastics for like $150 and the old plastics for like $20.. so that's a bit of money in my pocket for mods..

The EX and GS have almost identicle frames.  That guy chopped the subframe, carved plates to match the new subframe bolt pattern and welded them to the frame.  Difficulty is dependant on skill.

R6 subframe, plastics and seats.

Matty B 500

that look really good. id like to do something with my tail/seat.

Been toying around the idea of maken a reshape tail or a solo. Would use a old tail n seat as a base and carve it up and then shape it with fiberglass and paint it. I'm just outside augusta ,ga. If I get it together I'll let ya know, shouldn't be to hard, just need a old tail and seat. Can even be a little cracked.
If it comes out of your body you shouldn't be afraid to hold it in your hand! :o

NiceGuysFinishLast

Well, I've got an old cracked up tail, and the seat is in perfect shape... The only problem for me is that my whole subframe is f*cked... however, if I get this SV subframe thing going, I won't need my stock seat/plastics.. I'll let you know..

Get a Ducati monster seat, trim the subframe to fit it.

rob1bike

Could ya make or brace your old frame with some steel tubes, like steel stock? Don't know, don't know how bad your frame is. Did you crash it?
If it comes out of your body you shouldn't be afraid to hold it in your hand! :o

NiceGuysFinishLast

Yeah, I wrecked. The actual frame is ok.. just the subframe is bent. I suppose I could just fab something out of steel tubing.. didn't think of that. Hrmm...
