You can build a toyota that will beat up on an H1 pretty easily...

I can build a supra that will outperform a Maranello.  Thou hath mithed the pointh.

Oh no, i get the point and i totally agree.

I just love me some toyotas, supras are awsome ;)

makenzie71

haha me too...always been a Supra fan...had one of each generation...I miss my 1984 P-Type MKII Supra tremendously...just an awesome machine.  One of my brother's buddies had an old toyota truck that was rusted all to hell...there were places you could reach all the way through the body into the cab/bed...he used it to "unstick" all the people who got there 10" lifted chevies and fords from the trails lol...

In my opinion, someone that spends "a lot" of money on a TV is stupid.  My 4 year old 32" TV let's me watch my movies and shows just as well as a $4000 brand new TV.  I just have to move my eyes less...  (and in all reality, the picture looks better 'cause it's smaller...  It's the same amount of info being sent to the screen, but the GIANT TV only magnifies the flaws...  Which is why I hate my sister's $4000 TV...  It's hard to watch).

Its all about what is important to you. If you dont so much care about picture quality, fine, but i dont see a problem with spending assloads of money on a tv.

Granted - Flat screen TVs suck ass. End of story. Not even the newest, most expensive flat panel hdtv (lcd or plasma) can compare to a 10 year old sony CRT HDTV.

At work, we have a $40,000 34" HD broadcast monitor. And i can tell you from personal experience, that to the untrained eye, it is indistinguishable from reality. We had a party one time, and we pointed an HD camera at a fishtank in another room, made a bezel out of black cardboard around the monitor, and fed fishtankvision into it. Most people went the whole night with NO IDEA it wasnt a real fishtank.

Now i know nothing in consumer-land will ever compare to that, but a good quality HDTV, when set up properly and fed an HD signal, is well worth the pricetag to those of us that are picture snobs and can tell the difference.

Don't spend too much.  Moderate yourself.

Spend the money you can on things you enjoy.  You don't live forever, and if you spend your life saving for later, you'll get to later and not have any idea on what to do with yourself or be dead.

I am a poor college student.  I work 20 hrs a week, go to school full time and have no loans out.  I recently bought $450 worth of bicycle wheels because I had put money aside, apart from my savings account, and I'm damn glad I did it.  I now ride my bicycle to work, saving me gas money.  That gas money COULD go into my savings/investment, but I've been spending it on going out.  Sue me, but I like to go out and like to ride my bicycle where/when I can.

Now...my iPod...that's a different story, but not too different.

This whole calling names things just destroys any point you began to make.  I agree that many people spend too much money on things is a great observaration, but to say its because they have small peckers is one of the great fallacies.  What about the women who enjoy a fine car?  Kinda puts a damper on the gonad theory (or does it? :o).

There are many people who can afford a nice vehicle/bike, make the payments on their house, and save for retirement.  Some walk a more narrow line than others, not because they are stupid, but because not everyone believes in saving for some far off uncertainty we call 'retirement.'

Cancer, car wrecks, street violence, asteroid strike, robot attack, etc could all easily negate that great plan for the future.  If you work hard, only to die early, what purpose did your sacrifice serve?  Could one enjoy a MV Augusta to its fullest at 65?  I don't think that divine torture rack would have quite the same allure during one's Golden Years.

What we have here is a failure to understand individual rights.  I can say all day long that your 32" tv is a waste compared to my free 27", but where does it stop?  A thief who stole a 25" could trump me, and some hobo with a black and white tv that he was paid to take away could beat him, and so on.

As long as people's actions do not bring detriment into your life, or the lives of others, it shouldn't really matter.  Once you learn this lesson , the world becomes a more understandable place.  Until then, it would be to your benefit to stop with the useless pee pee rhetoric you read in a 'psychology' book while brousing at Borders, a pop-psych book that was itself gleaned from a poor synthesis of Freud.

okay, back on topic:

QuoteThis story hit the EliseTalk forums yesterday -- it all starts with an Lotus owner in Orlando, FL who took his Elise into Goodyear to drop a new set of tires on his canary yellow grip-tight speedster. And the result was -- well, let's just say we'd be laughing if we weren't crying so hard. Here's the story, straight from forum member and dented-Elise owner qball:

First of all, I did EVERYTHING I was supposed to except stick around and watch.

Dropped my Elise off to the local Goodyear shop to have new F1G3s installed. My Father-in-law is the service manager and has been for 10 years. He is out on medical leave, but he met me at the shop this morning, because he understands the uniqueness of the car.

I handed them the tire tools and opened the Owner's Manual to the jacking instructions so they would be clear. We went over all the instructions and they assured me I was in good hands.

We left...1 hour later I get a call about the "accident" and that I needed to come down...

WTF!

So this is what I found... (see pics)

It get's better... They said they read the manual, but not to the point where it spoke about the 4-point lift. After the crash, they continued reading. Yipee for me.
The damage is inclusive of the rear clam, front clam, underneath the driver's door, and a nice puncture through the bottom diffuser around the passenger seat area.

Thankz you Anthony.  I was gonna make a whole post similar to this.  Basically, live within your means.

I do agree with RVert's stand on how lots of people spend more than what they can afford, but if you can afford it, why not?  As Anthony stated, you only live once.  Might as well live it.

Just to say this...I know this guy who has the limited edition purple pace car corvette....OMG so frickin nice.  But the guy is the nicest guy in the world.  He bought it as something he wanted to just "collect" and just leaves it in is garage and he drive and only pick-up eveyrday.  Granted his wife has a nice car, two daughters: one drives a limited edition monte carlo and the other drives a mustange gt and he has an enourmous house with an inground pull.  One daughter is going to UGA and the other next year some private college.  However if you ever met this family on the street you would suspect they were in a lower middle class family. They dont care for fancy clothes or try to show off.  Just a humble family.........I have know idea where I am going now, just wanted to say THAT IS A NIIIIIIIIIICE CAR..

PS but I think the corvette follows what vert was saying about increasing in value  :dunno_white:

Although, I have to give you praise for admitting one fault...  Now, only if you could admit when you're wrong.

Oh well...  I'll hope for you to admit you're wrong once in your life and you can hope for a normal-sized pecker.
