I know there are several companies out there who make riding jeans.
They are suposed to provide more protection that regular jeans.  I know that none of them are even going to come close to leather.  But I'd still like to buy a pair anyway.  The ones I'm conisidering are

Joe Rocket Atomic Jeans:

Icon Recon Pant:

click on "products", then "pants"

Draggin' Relaxed Fit Jeans:

I like the looks of the Icons and they are priced the best, but it seems to me the Draggin' Jeans would provide the best protection.  Has anyone worn/owned any of these?  Does anyone know of any other options?

i have a pair of the atomic's and like them quite a bit.  they look cool, and seem to offer decent protection.  havn't fallen in them, but the construction and armor pads seem decent.

Draggin Jeans are good. They offer nearly as much abrasion resistance as leather, but they are wrecked after 1 slide down the road

I own a pair of (regular fit) draggin jeans.  They are great, and they don't look like riding pants, they look like normal jeans.  You can get extra knee pads for $20, which makes them even better.  Unless you are very thin, opt for the relaxed fit.  I'm 5-11, with a thin-to-medium build and the regular draggin jeans fit tight.

and I quote, "...I have rash on both my knees (wore a hole through the kevlar in my draggin jeans...

My HJC CL-12 helmet has a nice scrape, my violator pro's are scraped up and I have a small nick in one knuckle, alpinestar boots are scraped all to hell, toe sliders are flat on the right and well used on the left, I have holes in both thighs of my draggin jeans and a hole through the kevlar in the right knee... my frank thomas jacket is cooked, literally... zippers worn down, both arms shredded, hole in the armpit... and bits of nylon fused to other bits of nylon... that jacket didn't fit me right, so I'm sorta happy with it."

This from a typical low side at 40 mph.

well yes.  despite what some say, I know full well that there is no way that any jean can provide the protection of leather.  but the draggin' jeans would certainly be better than what I'm wearing now.  (regular jeans.)  and at only $100 (about the price of three pairs of regular jeans) I think it's a pretty good investment.

werase643

Pablo....you forgot to post the whole story...

"All in all, I faired damn well. My gear is all toast, but it kept me alive. My bike has seen its last ride, I'm sure... "

sounds like he was pretty damn pleased with his gear...

until later....
" The Bad:

Draggin Jeans.
damage to the leg includes numerouse spots of road rash across the knee and all up the side, pants disolved under him, they're useless. If you cant stay together in a 40mph lowside, go away. Go spend the money on something else. "

and we flip flop again....
"yhea, that does look decent, maybe I was looking at them wierd, or just addled last night.

-- james"

the jeans sacrificed themselves for his knees!!!!

I met the owner befor he died....
I'll keep wearing them....they really are a good product

Thats why I posted the link-and that one had a link to the entire story but I can't find where anyone died or mentioned anyond dying. Are you smoking crack or just making shaZam! up?

I got out of the thread that he was generally pleased given the damage a 40 mph lowslide/cartwheel did and the potential damage he could have suffered but was unsatisfied in that the protection (pants and jacket specifically) die to their eventual failing at such a low speed.

He survived with only a broken finger and road rash.

Those Icon ones are my favorite. I cant believe riding jeans are less than a nice pain of diesel jeans, or juicy coture. Crazy stuff! If they had better style, I might buy some. I guess I iwll have to wait for replay or DKNY to make some ridin jeans

this is what you said...am I missing something here or didn't you say you read "met the owner before he died..." are you (or the original post) referring to the owner of Draggin' Jeans possibly? In the post as you wrote it seemed it referred to the rider that crashed.

DKNY isn't alternative lifestyle man. I wear DKNY and also AX (and armani, Kenneth Cole) . They make good clothing for us euro motogp body types (the thin ones).

Yeah, I'm a snob.
