i just purchased a cherry 2001 GS500 for 1850 bucks with aftermarket exhaust. well my question is when i went to go gas up i turned the knob to reset the trip and it also spun around and added 100 miles to my Odometer! sometimes it adds mileage to the odometer some times not. so my main problem is i cant set the trip to zero miles, any ideas?

buy a new one. or pull that one apart and see whats going on.
chances are the little cog is stuffed from not being alligned properly.
some one on here must have a spare surely. i have a spare set but im in the uk, and i think postage would be a little too much. but let me know if you get stuck. and ill send it to you.
as long as you pay postage you can have it for free
pod filters, costum r6 quill exhaust(no baffles)40/140 jets, heavy duty springs, sv650 rear shock, gsxr srad tail, bandit 600 4.5 inch rim with 150 tyre, gsx twin disc front end "1995 pocket rocket"  ridden by a kiwi in scotland

Welcome to GStwin!

You can't set it to zero at all?

Sometimes, when I fill up with gas, I'll have 135 on the tripmeter (and say, 35,388 on the odo), and when I spin the knob only the 1 and the 3 will turn until they get to 5 (tripmeter now 555), and then they'll all turn up to 999 (and now, because they go past 9, the tripmeter will somehow trip my odo up one number, so it reads 35,389).

Another thing, don't spin it backwards, that screws it up somehow.
