Does anyone have a problem with their gauges vibrating?
I've got a 2001, 7500 miles. The rubber supports that the gauges rest in are fine. The threaded caps only let you get it so tight.
I added a washer to each stud, it pulled the gauges tighter, and stop the viberation/noise.
Whad u ya think?

The clocks are fitted on the rubber mounts to allow them to absorb vibration. The internals are fragile, sensitive and easily damaged. If you tighten them up so they cant absorb vibration its likely they will give erratic readings or even fail completley.

Yeah, I didn't crank em down, just a lil tighter...

Do your "clocks" have the rubber ring between them and the dash plate? If so, they may be old, dry, and compressed.

A set of fresh ones will actually compress when the acorn nuts on the clock legs are tightend.

The rings are the same part number, you just orient the notch for the speedo to coincide with the trip meter knob.

Yeah, they seem to be pretty good, not perfect but still nice and supple. No dry rot.
I added 1 washer to the stud below the basket, between the rubber grommet and the cap nut, it added sum tension and seemed to quiet it down. They still feel like they have some padding. I just don't wanna destroy anything or start blowing bulbs.

If its a big problem, post pictures of your rubber mounts.  I've got an extra set so if they seem like they are in better shape than yours, I'll ship em out to ya.

If you crank down tighter on the rubber bushings (using washers or whatever method) you should actually see more vibration.  The rubber should be able to flex and thus help absorb the vibes.

Do your needles vibrate a bunch?  I've been drinking and I'm trying to undertsand your troubles.

I have problems understanding my troubles too, that's why I drink.

The gauges just seemed loose, like the threaded posts on the gauges needed two more threads and an deeper cap nut to tighten them up just a bit. As I rode I'd put my thumbs on them and the vibe/noise went away. So I threw in a washer under the cap nut to add sum tension. It worked. Just wondered if anyone else every had that problem.I'm not super anal, just an odd vibration

Damping free vibrating masses is tricky stuff. The wrong hardness of the elastic element, and you get more vibration instead of less, depending on frequency.

Rob, you may want to check balancing of your front wheel; this migt be the root cause.

nope even the bulbs are inserted with a rubber gormet. I put a small brass washer on mine to before the cap nut and seems fine to me...no blown bulbs, dosn't vibrate, except the tach when it gets up there towrads redline I notice it shakes a little, but I'm not anal either, things shake rattle and roll at redline :flipoff:

Thanks for the tire balance idea. I'll check it, new tires are on the list!!!
I just put on a wileyco with srinaths flange, I was lean before so I leaner now. Srinath jet kit is in the mail so I'll see what that solves
