So I've removed the two little acorn nuts holding the tachometer assembly in place and disconnected the cable from the back too. According to what I've read on this board, the tachometer assembly should just come apart and the bulb should just be sitting there, ripe for the plucking. But all I see is a sealed cylindrical assembly with a couple of wires leading into it (presumably to power the bulb). There are a couple of screws on the back of this cylindrical assembly, but I'm a little reluctant to take them off.

I've got the Clymer manual and it says nothing about this self-sealed tachometer assembly. Apart from the two screws on the back, I'm not sure what's holding the thing together.

Please help!

PS: I've got a 2002 GS500.

Just a clarification...

Referring to the Bike Bandit parts fiche: http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/showschematic~dept_id~720941.asp

The cylindrical assembly I'm referring to is part #4. I assume the bulb is contained inside that? Otherwise, I have no idea how the tachometer could be illuminated...

Yes. That is the housing. Pull the black rubber plug out at the bottom center. It pulls straight out.
