Exhaust mounting changes

Ok can you mount the exhaust with the mounting bracket on the bottom? I know you would prob need a extra bit of pipe because it will be a bit longer and maybe some bending of the pipe but is there anything else prohibiting the mounting (besides the rear peg there). I really like the look of the higher mount exhaust but want the whole muffler tucked up higher not just like the below picture where it looks like its bent up.

(Sorry Joris)

I've photochopped up a quick ugly picture (dont comment on my skills!) so you can visualize it a bit better.

Well after looking into this a bit more on the bike looks like all I need are a couple 2" 45* bends and expand the stock pipe to mate to the 2" pipe and just buy a can. I'm hunting a decent Carbon Fiber can as we speak and the bends are easily found from jegs or summit. I think the local muffler place here will weld the stuff up for cheap.

You wont be able to carry a passenger after that install. The peg is right above the muffler. They will scorch their legs and scream.

Blah passengers are overrated. I dont 2-up so its not a big thing to me. Already have the pegs removed anyway

If that works, you may have a little market for something like that.  There are no high-mount systems, slip-on or otherwise for the GS....keep us posted... :thumb:

Dunno why not its pretty simple to do it seems. The hardest part will be welding that rubber stop for the centerstand in the right place. Sure wish I could weld better and I could do it all myself! I'll just have to cut and mock it all up then bring the bike to the shop to weld the rest up.

Anyone have a spare exhaust system with no can or a beat all to crap can?

I cut the stock ones off and installed gsxr rear pegs and brackets.
http://pantablo500.tripod.com/pablosgs500page/id19.html (last picture-you have to scroll down). I have a temp hanger still but another one thats better than the one shown. The final needs to have a new hanger welded to end can instead of another bracket connecting the peg bracket to end can.

If you were to install these gsxr ones and got the mid-pipe tucked up and under the peg bracket you could mount the end can AFTER the bracket, but it's have to be shorty can to not interfere with turn signal...or do flush mounts. You can see how this project can mushroom.

Nah dont need the pegs at all, tho those make the bike look nicer. Do the stock ones need to be cut off both sides or was the left side bolted on? Was thinking of removing it if so since the right one will be covered by the exhaust can. I really like the look of a high mount exhaust and if I can get it to fit I'll stick it under the tail! But doubt there will be room there for that. I found a bunch of can's on ebay that will work just hope they dont get bid up too high. A couple stock exhausts for real cheap too but the shipping is too much for it need something localish.

Also on the cans it doesnt matter really where you put the hanger its just a big clamp that is seperate from the can, so if you wanted you could get one and have it welded up and the muffler would sit up a bit higher and little more back maybe and still keep the GSXR pegs on there.

Here is a pic of one of the cans.

Dont think it will connect to the rest of the exhaust but you can see the mounting clamp.

both sides of the stock gs were cut off, no bolting. these new gsxr ones bolt into the subframe in holes I drilled.

Might just cut that side off then and save some weight!
